About The Position

Mendocino Forest Products LLC. (MFP) is looking for an experienced Debarker/Bucksaw Operator to join our Sawmill Operations team in Ukiah, CA on our Day Shift. This is a non-exempt position at an hourly rate of $28.65 and includes full benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and 401K match. The Mendocino Companies own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Requirements

High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
Minimum of one (1) year of sawmill experience, completion of 90 days of specialized training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Forklift certification preferred, or the ability to successfully complete training and obtain certification.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to read and understand instructions and memos, and to write simple, clear communications.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations using standard units of U.S. currency, weight, volume, and distance.
Ability to solve practical problems involving a limited number of variables in standardized work situations.

Responsibilities

Operate hand controls to move logs through the debarker system and ensure proper removal of bark from logs.
Monitor conveyors, belts, kickers, and log bins to prevent and clear plug-ups or crossed logs, as necessary.
Monitor and operate buck saws to cut logs into specified lengths based on production requirements.
Manually operating system controls when logs improperly enter the system.
Inspect debarker equipment, buck saws, and related machinery daily to ensure proper operation, including checking lubrication systems.
Operate a chainsaw as required to support operations.
Clean and maintain scanner optics, banner arrays, and metal detectors to ensure proper functionality.
Identify and remove metal or debris from systems, including clearing metal detectors as needed.
Accurately identify logs by species and size to support processing requirements.
Recognize potential equipment or process issues and promptly report them to the team leader, supervisor, or maintenance personnel.
Communicate effectively with team members, including knuckle boom and DLI operators, to support safe and efficient operations.
Provide relief support for knuckle boom operations as needed.
Maintain cleanliness of equipment and work areas in accordance with safety and housekeeping standards.
Follow supervisor’s direction and respond to team member requests in a safe, timely, and responsible manner.
Actively participate in team efforts and maintain consistent communication within the work area.
Perform other duties as assigned.
