Requirements

  • Master’s degree in student affairs, counseling, education, or other closely related field, AND
  • Five years of progressively responsible higher education work experience in higher education, AND
  • Five years of supervisory work experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated ability in collaborating with key stakeholders in senior higher education administration, the college community, and public.
  • Skill, dedication, and aptitude for working with students.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and skill in resident relations, crisis management, and people management.
  • Skills in strategic thinking, innovation and ability to approach projects collaboratively.
  • Ability to guide, develop and mentor a high-performing team.
  • Proficiency in current software, social media, and other related technologies.
  • Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC.
  • Ability and willingness to serve as an ambassador for the College by interacting appropriately with the college community and community.
  • Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships.
  • Ability to follow and issue directions.
  • Demonstrated communication, technology, presentation, customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to intermittently work non-traditional schedules including evenings, weekends, etc.
  • Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a primary contact for all FVCC students.
  • Works directly with students to provide services and programs that enhance student life, residence life, and our community.
  • Responsible for administering the student code of conduct in accordance with policy and complaint process, renders decisions on student appeals.
  • Determines appropriate corresponding discipline; provides alternative dispute resolution, conflict resolution, and crisis management.
  • Manages students’ complaints and the student complaint processes.
  • Serves as the campus Title IX Coordinator.
  • Leads a team of investigators, liaisons, stays abreast of legal changes and obligations, and ensures compliance.
  • Supervises the Student Engagement, Residence Life, and Mental Health Counseling s areas.
  • Sets the priorities of the team to provide a wide range of services for students.
  • Provides leadership and direction that fosters student learning and development and contributes to a vital and engaged student experience.
  • Provides leadership, mentors and supervises staff; motivates and empowers staff to create environments that promote innovation; sets standards for delivering quality service and strategic programming in student and residence life.
  • Recommends and reviews policies and procedures regarding student services.
  • Provides leadership in the development of innovative policies, procedures, programs and systems.
  • Serves as an internal resource to members of the college on matters related to student affairs.
  • Creates and maintains a collaborative and collegial environment with colleagues and maintains effective working relationships.
  • Advances the mission of FVCC by serving on or convening committees and contributing in the community in college-related activities. M ay chair committees such as the CARE team, student success and communications.
  • Participates in the Montana Student Affairs Organization (SAO).
  • Coordinates the All USA academic team scholarship.
  • Oversees budgets and financial activities in concert with the college’s strategic plan.
  • Oversees residential housing operations; ensures a safe, secure, and healthy living environment, and supervises crisis and risk management in residential housing.
  • Responds to student emergencies requiring timely intervention, including after-hours situations.
  • Evaluates and assesses college housing occupancy, retention, and projection trends; coordinates marketing and recruiting efforts for on-campus housing; and confirms that all room assignments and billings are posted in accordance to guidelines.
  • Administers housing policies and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with all policies, procedures and applicable laws and state/city/federal regulations and requirements.
  • Assumes leadership in promoting good public relations with college faculty, staff, students, and external constituents.
  • Leads or assists other college personnel for events, projects, planning, idea sharing, issue resolutions, operational communications, professional development, etc. to create value for the college and community.
  • Establishes long range planning mechanisms; prepares periodic reports and represents the department and maintains collaborative relationship with college departments.
  • Remains current in practices, trends and research related to areas of assignment.
  • Attends related trainings, workshops, and professional development.
  • Cross trains to perform other departmental and team functions; backfills for staff as needed.
  • Actively participates in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and efforts to continuously improve services to students, faculty, and the College.
  • Creates and maintains a collaborative and collegial environment with colleagues and maintains effective working relationships.
  • Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Reports to the Vice-President of Academic and Student Affairs.
