About The Position

The Dean of Instruction is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. This role prioritizes classroom visits to support teachers and assist with their retention, and supports teachers in the daily implementation of all curriculum and instructional related elements. The Dean will create and maintain positive and supportive relationships with the School Leader and school staff, conduct classroom walkthroughs and observations for support, identify areas of strength and opportunity, and identify professional development needs of classroom teachers. They will provide meaningful feedback to teachers, select appropriate instructional practices for various student groups, and be familiar with a variety of instruments, technology tools, and other resources for assessing and enhancing student performance. Additionally, the Dean will possess knowledge of how to train staff to map and align the curriculum, ensure alignment between the locally implemented curriculum and Arizona State Standards, and disaggregate student data for instructional planning and professional development. They will ensure alignment between the written, implemented, and assessed curriculum, and provide support in the development of pacing guides. The Dean will also ensure the development of weekly lesson plans, mentor teachers in the development and implementation of those lesson plans, and meet with teachers on a weekly basis during PLC, 1:1 sessions, or as needed. They will assist teachers in using data to design student instruction and assessment and actively attend and participate in all scheduled curriculum coach meetings and related best practices activities/opportunities. A willingness to share acquired knowledge through formal and informal professional development opportunities is expected, along with performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in education from an accredited college or university.
  • Single subject teaching credential or certification if teaching a specialized subject
  • A valid Arizona State Teaching Certificate, or the ability to obtain one with the appropriate endorsement(s).
  • Valid IVP Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of best instructional practices.
  • This individual will exhibit the skills pertinent to fostering positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with teachers and staff.
  • Ability to facilitate learning, professional development, instructional oversight, and coaching.
  • Ability to deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons across disciplines.
  • Relevant teaching experience.

Responsibilities
