About The Position

The Dean of Academics serves as the Principal's chief instructional leader and is responsible for ensuring high-quality teaching and learning throughout Southern Avenue Charter Elementary School. The Dean of Academics leads curriculum implementation, instructional coaching, professional learning communities (PLCs), instructional data analysis, teacher development, Title I program administration, and continuous school improvement efforts to improve student achievement. This position serves as the Principal's primary advisor on all instructional matters.

Requirements

  • Valid Tennessee Educator License
  • Master's Degree
  • Minimum five years successful teaching experience
  • Demonstrated instructional coaching experience
  • Experience leading professional development
  • Knowledge of Tennessee academic standards
  • Experience with federal programs

Nice To Haves

  • Tennessee Administrator License (ILP)
  • Prior experience as Instructional Coach, Dean, Assistant Principal, or Curriculum Specialist

Responsibilities

  • Lead implementation of the school’s instructional vision.
  • Coach teachers through classroom observations, feedback and mentoring.
  • Conduct instructional walk-throughs and informal observations.
  • Assist the Principal with teacher evaluations in accordance with Tennessee Academics Standards.
  • Monitor curriculum implementation and pacing.
  • Plan and facilitate Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
  • Coordinate teacher professional development.
  • Support new teacher induction and mentoring.
  • Analyze student achievement data.
  • Lead instructional data meetings.
  • Develop instructional action plans.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Assessment and Accountability to monitor academic progress.
  • Serve as Title I Coordinator.
  • Oversee Title I planning, budgeting, documentation, and compliance.
  • Coordinate family engagement activities required under Title I.
  • Ensure compliance with federal program requirements.
  • Serve on the Administrative Leadership Team.
  • Assist the Principal in strategic planning.
  • Help build a culture of instructional excellence.
