About The Position

The Dean serves as the primary academic and administrative officer for the School of Health Sciences. In collaboration with the faculty, designs and implements programs that support educational excellence and the goals of the college. Provides leadership in the development of bridges and partnerships between academic and non-credit programs. Oversees accreditation-related activities, including the management of self-study processes, the development of self-study reports, and accreditation compliance requirements. Promotes innovations in learning and teaching, guides and supports faculty and staff development, and maintains an academic atmosphere conducive to teaching excellence. Creates and maintains strong relationships with local healthcare providers to ensure clinical and job placements for students and graduates. Supervises the assessment of student learning leading to continuous improvement. Develops grant applications aligned with the college’s strategic plan and goals and collaborates with the Grants Office to manage projects. Has oversight of the financial, administrative and operational affairs of the School and will serve as advisor to the Vice President on matters concerning policy, procedure, financial, and operational issues. Operates with a significant degree of autonomy. Represents the Vice President to all constituents.

Requirements

  • Master's degree required in Higher Education Administration, closely related field or in a discipline offered at the College/School, from an accredited institution. Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Five to seven years of full-time experience in higher education required, to include prior higher education teaching, administrative, and supervisory experience.
  • Experience in a collective bargaining environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to integrative management and strategic thinking.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proven outstanding communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • High level of diplomacy and confidentiality.

  • Computer literacy skills at an intermediate level with the demonstrated ability to utilize and apply the Microsoft Office Suite as well as specialized software programs and computer applications essential to the position, including but not limited to the College’s ERP.
  • Must be able to travel locally.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision of all assigned staff.
  • Observe and evaluate faculty per the Faculty contract, providing feedback to align with institutional standards.
  • Coordinate full-time faculty recruitment and hiring processes, ensuring compliance with College policies. Facilitate search process, including interviewing and recommending final candidates.
  • Approve hiring of School adjunct faculty: ensure appropriate interview process, review credentials and references; submit requests for exemptions to policy/procedures to the Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • Ensure that all staff and direct reports have established and communicated goals and performance expectations. Ensure performance appraisals are completed on time. Identify needs and issues and develop and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Promote, facilitate and support professional development of faculty and staff.
  • Supervise the advisory committee process for all career programs within the School.
  • Review, revise, and approve faculty schedules submitted by Assistant Deans and Department Chairpersons.
  • Supervise accreditation cycles and processes, ensuring each accredited program’s compliance with requirements.
  • Supervise the creation and maintenance of strong relationships with clinical sites.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the School.
  • Manage the School budget and approval of requests for such expenses as travel, tuition reimbursement, and additional compensation.
  • Responsible for oversight of proper maintenance of facilities used by faculty, staff, and students. Work closely with Facilities or IT to address any issue regarding the safety or operability of facilities.
  • Develop the School budget requests; allocate and manage resources - budgetary, personnel, and facilities.
  • Responsible for the creation and delivery of School reports.
  • Responsible for the financial integrity, security, and operational solvency of the School.
  • Build the master schedule of offerings in the School in conjunction with other Deans and Scheduling.
  • Investigate and recommend action related to student grade appeals and appeals of Academic Integrity violations, consistent with any program-specific handbooks.
  • Manage enrollment during registration periods.
  • Ensure the academic integrity and rigor of the programs and courses in fulfillment of the College's mission.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Academic Affairs Division's executive management and all college Divisions to achieve a strategic, student-centered approach to campus operations in support of academic as well as College operations.
  • Spearhead collaboration with CPS. Facilitate and promote activities that result in the development of bridges and partnerships between academic departments and continuing education programming.
  • Promote a positive image and attitude for the Campus and the College.
  • Participate and/or chair various college committees as assigned.
  • Provide management input to negotiations and other union relations matters; serve as hearing officer for grievances at the informal hearing step.
  • Responsible for the assessment of student learning and monitoring program learning outcomes in the School.
  • Responsible for providing feedback for academic program review and for monitoring following through on department plans in collaboration with the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • Promote and facilitate innovation in achieving all learning outcomes.
  • Guided by the College Strategic Plan and Mission Based Indicators, responsible for development, implementation and evaluation of an School strategic plan.
  • Develop grant applications aligned with the college’s strategic plan and goals and collaborates with the Grants Office to manage project.
