About The Position

The Dean, College of Education, under the direction of the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, serves as the chief academic leader and administrative officer of the College of Education. This role is responsible for ensuring excellence in all College programs and providing strategic leadership to advance its academic mission, operational effectiveness, and long-term growth. The Dean oversees the overall administration of the College, including academic program quality, faculty and staff leadership, student success, strategic planning, budgeting and resource management, accreditation, enrollment initiatives, and external partnerships. Collaboration with university leadership, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community stakeholders is essential to foster a culture of academic excellence and innovation, while ensuring compliance with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and applicable laws and regulations. The Dean also works with campus leadership and the Kean University Foundation to secure private philanthropic resources to support the College’s mission. This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree in a field related to the disciplines within the college
  • Distinguished scholarly or professional record within their discipline appropriate to lead and evaluate faculty and staff
  • Minimum of five years of progressive academic leadership experience with a strong educator-preparation background, including understanding of teacher preparation, educational leadership, special education, curriculum/instruction and/or other relevant education programs

  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain strong partnerships with K–12 school districts, state education agencies, professional organizations, community organizations and education policymakers
