Deal Desk & Incentive Compensation Lead

Basis AI•New York, NY
•$130,000 - $210,000

About The Position

Basis is hiring a Deal Desk and Incentive Compensation Lead to partner with Sales and Post Sales on deal structure, approvals, and incentive compensation. The role will build, implement, and operate systems and AI automation to support scale as deal volume and the go-to-market team grow. The lead will advise on pricing, packaging, discounts, multi-year and ramped deals, upsells, and renewals; manage the deal approval process and commercial validation; and own CPQ and deal automation requirements and configuration. They will also administer incentive compensation, calculate and reconcile payouts, implement a compensation tool, improve visibility into compensation, and serve as the main Revenue Operations contact for Finance on relevant contract, bookings, billing, revenue recognition, commission, and payroll matters. Success in the first six months includes documenting and improving the approval process and deal turnaround, becoming a trusted partner on complex deals, establishing reliable compensation rules and payout cycles, delivering automation and compensation-tool milestones, reducing manual work, and owning issues through resolution.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in Deal Desk, Sales Operations, Revenue Operations, or Sales Compensation at a growing B2B SaaS company.
  • Hands-on ownership of deal desk and compensation administration.
  • Strong Salesforce and CPQ skills, including hands-on configuration of price books, quote templates, and approval workflows.
  • Experience calculating and reconciling sales compensation payouts, applying crediting rules, and resolving discrepancies with Finance.
  • High agency and low ego; able to build systems rather than add manual work and drive changes across the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building a Deal Desk or compensation function from scratch at a Series A–C company.
  • Experience building or implementing a compensation management tool.
  • Experience with tiered or volume-based pricing models.

Responsibilities

  • Advise Sales and Post Sales teams on pricing, packaging, discounts, multi-year and ramped deals, upsells, and renewals; help structure complex and non-standard deals before they reach customers.
  • Maintain the approval matrix and discount guidelines in partnership with GTM and Finance.
  • Validate commercial details before orders are sent, including order form calculations, pricing against standards, and required approvals.
  • Build automated checks for standard deals, review non-standard deals, and route exceptions to appropriate approvers.
  • Own business requirements and day-to-day configuration of the CPQ and pricing calculator, including the product catalog, price books, quote templates, and approval rules.
  • Build and test AI and workflow automation for order form validation, approval routing, and contract-term extraction, with exception handling and human review for decisions requiring judgment.
  • Administer incentive compensation operations; translate approved plans and quotas into plan documents; calculate and reconcile payouts; investigate disputes; and maintain an audit trail of adjustments.
  • Partner with Finance and leadership on final approval of plan changes, crediting exceptions, and payouts.
  • Lead evaluation and implementation or development of a compensation tool with Finance and systems partners, and provide reps and managers visibility into attainment, estimated earnings, and payout status.
  • Serve as the main RevOps contact for Finance on contract terms, bookings, billing and revenue-recognition inputs, commission calculations, and payroll handoff.
  • Document and improve deal approval processes, monitor response time, deal turnaround, and rework, and maintain accurate order forms and required approvals.
  • Document crediting rules, reconciliation checks, and the payout calendar; run on-time, approved payout cycles and track discrepancies through resolution.
  • Track automation and compensation-tool milestones, reductions in manual work, and whether exceptions reach the right reviewer.
  • Own issues through resolution, communicate tradeoffs early, and improve systems as the business scales.
