About The Position

Potbelly Sandwich Shop is hiring a Daytime Team Member to help customers enjoy lunch by providing fast, friendly, and efficient service and delivering consistent, quality products in a clean and inviting environment. Team Members work across shop stations, help open the shop, prepare food, serve customers, and contribute to a welcoming, energetic team environment. The role is available for morning and daytime shifts within an 8 a.m.–4 p.m. scheduling window; applicants need availability within that window but do not need to be available for the entire period. Pay is $17.25–$17.75 plus digital tips; Potbelly does not guarantee tip earnings. Illinois employees must become food safety certified within 30 days of employment. Applications must be submitted by November 30, 2026, though the posting may close earlier if a suitable candidate is selected.

Requirements

Be at least 16 years of age.
Have a friendly, customer-first mindset and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, energetic environment.
Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Be comfortable working in a bustling kitchen environment.
Be able to manage potential allergens, including peanut products, egg, dairy, gluten, soy, seafood, and shellfish.
Be a team player.
Be able to stand or walk for at least 3 hours or as needed.
Be able to lift up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Have availability during the morning/daytime scheduling window of 8 a.m.–4 p.m.; availability for the entire window is not required.

Nice To Haves

Knife skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

Work at multiple stations, including load, dress, shakes, cash, prep, and front, as directed by a Shift Leader or Manager.
Comply with food health, cleanliness, and safety standards.
Restock the food line, chips, and cooler.
Efficiently prepare quality sandwiches, salads, soups, cookies, ice cream, and other finished products.
If 18 or older, use the automatic slicer to prepare food items.
Clean tables, counters, floors, bathrooms, kitchen areas, and utensils; take out trash.
Operate the cash register and follow cash-handling procedures, including handling and balancing cash.
Effectively handle customer complaints and issues.
Take delivery, catering, and pickup orders over the phone.
Perform other duties as assigned.
