About The Position

EveryMind Mental Health Services is seeking a dedicated Child & Youth Worker for a Day Treatment Counsellor Assistant role within a day treatment classroom. This program supports children aged 4-11 who face significant emotional, behavioral, or relationship challenges. EveryMind is an accredited center focused on providing high-quality mental health services in a client-centered, inclusive, and collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Child & Youth Worker diploma with a minimum of one year of related experience or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Child and Youth Care or eligibility.
  • Thorough knowledge of mental health issues and ability to work from a trauma-informed lens.
  • Proven understanding of a milieu environment and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, time management, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong understanding of role boundaries.
  • Ability to respond to and support client's unique mental health needs within a therapeutic environment, multi-disciplinary plan, and integrated school setting.
  • Availability to work late afternoons and evenings for meetings and family reviews.
  • Availability to work the academic year (position does not operate during school breaks).
  • Knowledge of client care information systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Current standard First Aid Certificate and UMAB certification.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s license (Full G Class) and use of a vehicle.
  • Comfort in driving clients throughout the Peel region.
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
  • Pre-Employment Medical screening (including TB test, MMR, TD, Polio, Covid-19 Vaccination).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Day Treatment Counsellor and classroom teacher to maintain a therapeutic environment.
  • Support the Day Treatment Counsellor in individual, group, and caregiver counseling sessions.
  • Address and support clients' unique mental health needs within a therapeutic and multi-disciplinary framework.
  • Take a lead role in the classroom in the absence of the Day Treatment Counsellor, developing and implementing treatment and social skills groups.
  • Ensure client safety and well-being by adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Implement and adhere to client-specific treatment goals.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the multidisciplinary team, host school/school board, and other professionals.
  • Liaise with families/caregivers as needed.
  • Complete observation sheets and assist with client records and data documentation.
  • Maintain current training in first aid, medications, and physical intervention techniques.
  • Plan and participate in client activities.
  • Purchase program supplies and account for expenditures.
  • Transport clients as required.
