About The Position

The Summer Day Camp Director leads and supervises staff and children in our state-licensed Summer Day Camp Program, ensuring full compliance with Colorado child-care licensing requirements. The Director is responsible for providing direction and support to participants; managing behavior and ensuring safety and security; communicating effectively with parents, staff, and supervisors; maintaining clean program spaces; recording attendance; overseeing first aid and medication; supervising and coaching staff; and creating engaging activities, special events, and field trips for children ages 5–12. The Director also supervises children and staff during morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack to ensure safety, smooth transitions, and positive group dynamics.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Working knowledge of first aid techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of instructional and recreational program/curriculum development.
  • Basic knowledge of group and individual recreation activities and of their rules and conducts.
  • Working knowledge of varied recreational equipment and its usefulness and limitations concerning diversified recreational programs.
  • Skill in understanding and responding to customer needs.
  • Skill in the operation of program equipment.
  • Skill in the operation of copier and fax machine, telephone, mobile or two-way radio, and various sports equipment used in recreation programs.
  • Skill in administering First Aid and CPR.
  • Ability to swim and participate with children in swimming related activities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.
  • Ability to promote and follow City and Department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate staff.
  • Must complete current state required annual continuing education (presently 15 hours minimum) related to one or more of the following: child growth and development, health and safe environment, developmentally appropriate practices, guidance, family relationships, cultural and individual diversity and professionalism.
  • Be 21 years of age or older.
  • Meet one of the following state-approved pathways: Education Pathway - A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in a related field such as Child Development, Psychology, Education, Special Education, Human Services, Family Studies, Outdoor Education, or Recreation.
  • College Credit and Experience Pathway - An associate degree or 60+ college semester credits, plus at least 3 months (455 hours) of experience supervising four or more unrelated children age 4 or older.
  • Experience + Training/Education Pathway - A total of 21 months (3,185 hours) of supervised experience with school-age children, plus either: 6 college semester credits, or 40 hours of approved school-age training completed within the first 9 months in the role.
  • Colorado EC Professional Credential Pathway - A current Early Childhood Professional Credential Level II or higher.
  • Must have a valid Colorado driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • Reference checks will be conducted.
  • CPR/AED, First Aid and Universal Precautions certifications required within 30 days of hire.
