About The Position

Kaizen Approach is currently seeking a Database Engineer to provide technical expertise for database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow, and data analysis. In this role, the individual will develop relational and object-oriented databases, database parser and loading software, and project long-range requirements for database administration and design. The position involves developing database structures aligned with overall system architecture, making trade-offs among data volumes, user populations, distribution, response times, retention rules, security, and domain controls, while supporting the lifecycle from requirements through system acceptance testing and Initial Operational Capability. The Database Engineer will develop and manage requirements from project inception through completion, assist with analysis and evaluation of system improvements, optimization, development, and maintenance efforts, and translate requirements and data into usable documentation through queries, scripts, macros, and master data files. The role includes building complex systems using queries, tables, Open Database Connectivity, and database storage and retrieval solutions leveraging cloud methodologies.

Requirements

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of experience as a Database Engineer supporting programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity, or nine years of Database Engineer experience if no bachelor’s degree is held.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university, or four additional years of Database Engineer experience may be substituted for the degree.

Responsibilities

  • Support database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow, and data analysis activities across system environments.
  • Support the analysis and evaluation of system improvements, optimization efforts, development activities, and maintenance efforts related to database systems.
  • Support the development of both long-term and short-term requirements for database administration and database design.
  • Translate requirements and data into a usable database schema by creating or recreating ad hoc queries, scripts, and macros, updating existing queries, and creating new queries to manipulate data into a master file.
  • Develop database structures that fit within the overall architecture of the system under development.
  • Develop requirement recommendations from project inception through project conclusion for specific business and information technology subject matter areas, supporting systems ranging from simple to complex.
  • Develop database structures aligned with overall system architecture while making trade-offs among data volumes, number of users, logical and physical distribution, response times, retention rules, security requirements, and domain controls.
  • Build complex systems using queries, tables, Open Database Connectivity, and database storage and retrieval solutions leveraging cloud methodologies.
