About The Position

Computer World Services, Corp. (CWS) seeks a Journeyman Database and Application Support Engineer to support database availability, application operations, service restoration, component upgrades, and recovery validation for the USMEPCOM ENLIST program. The engineer diagnoses database outages, application dependencies, connection failures, unavailable services, certificate problems, and API issues across database, application, middleware, server, network, cloud, and security components. The role coordinates with enterprise IT operations teams and software teams when resolution requires code analysis or correction, focusing on production support, integration, recovery, and testing rather than primary application development. This is a remote position, with Chicago, Illinois-area candidates preferred. After-hours work may be required during outages, deployments, maintenance windows, upgrades, and recovery activities. An active Secret clearance or higher is required. The position has a listed salary range of $130,000–$160,000 per year. The period of performance is March 1, 2027, through February 28, 2033, with a contract start date of March 1, 2027. By applying, candidates acknowledge and consent to having their resume included in an active competitive Government contract bid.

  • At least six years of relevant database support, application support, systems engineering, production operations, or enterprise IT experience.
  • Demonstrated experience diagnosing database availability, application dependencies, connection failures, services, certificates, and API-related outages.
  • Active Secret clearance or higher.
  • Ability to work after hours as required during outages, deployments, maintenance windows, upgrades, and recovery activities.

  • Diagnose database availability issues, failed services, connection failures, authentication problems, resource constraints, and performance degradation, including issues involving listeners, connection strings, pools, drivers, service accounts, and network paths.
  • Analyze application dependencies across databases, servers, middleware, APIs, certificates, networks, cloud, storage, and external interfaces, using logs, metrics, traces, and alerts to isolate faults.
  • Diagnose certificate failures involving expiration, trust chains, hostnames, bindings, private keys, or protocols, and support certificate installation and renewal.
  • Diagnose REST, SOAP, API gateway, endpoint, authentication, authorization, payload, and timeout issues.
  • Support relational database platforms, application and web servers, middleware, schedulers, integration services, and runtime components.
  • Participate in Outage Response Team activities by performing triage, gathering diagnostics, supporting approved mitigation, workarounds, and recovery, and maintaining incident timelines.
