About The Position

This role involves hands-on administration of Microsoft SQL Server in production environments. The Database Administrator (DBA) will be responsible for instance startup/shutdown, configuration parameter changes, and operational maintenance. A strong working knowledge of SQL Server monitoring and maintenance is essential, including backup and restore operations, integrity checks, and scheduled maintenance jobs. The DBA will perform routine health diagnostics and remediation, identify space and growth risks, and proactively address availability and performance issues. Execution of approved SQL Server changes, such as installations, upgrades, patching, and configuration updates, will be done by following documented procedures. Experience with ITSM processes using ServiceNow, including Incident, Problem, Change, and Request Management, is required, along with accurate ticket updates and timely escalation. The role also includes supporting SQL Server security operations, audit, and compliance activities.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in production environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL Server monitoring and maintenance, including full/differential/log backups, restore operations, DBCC integrity checks, statistics updates, and scheduled maintenance jobs.
  • Ability to perform routine SQL Server health diagnostics and remediation.
  • Ability to execute approved SQL Server changes by following documented runbooks, validation steps, and rollback procedures.
  • Working understanding of ITSM processes using ServiceNow, including Incident, Problem, Change, and Request Management.
  • Practical experience in SQL Server performance monitoring and basic tuning, including identifying slow-running queries, detecting blocking and deadlocks, and monitoring CPU, memory, and I/O contention.
  • Ability to escalate complex performance and query optimization issues to L3 DBAs with appropriate diagnostics and analysis.
  • Hands-on execution of SQL Server backup validation and restore activities.
  • Experience supporting SQL Server security operations.
  • Experience supporting audit and compliance activities for SQL Server environments.

Responsibilities

  • Administer Microsoft SQL Server in production environments, including instance startup/shutdown, configuration parameter changes, and operational maintenance.
  • Perform routine SQL Server health diagnostics and remediation, including DBCC checks, identifying space and growth risks, and proactively addressing common availability and performance issues.
  • Execute approved SQL Server changes (installations, upgrades, patching, configuration updates) by following documented runbooks, validation steps, and rollback procedures.
  • Support SQL Server security operations, including login and role management, permission changes, and execution of approved security controls.
  • Support audit and compliance activities for SQL Server environments, including evidence collection, remediation execution, and documentation updates.
  • Perform SQL Server backup validation and restore activities, including support for recovery and disaster recovery exercises under L3 guidance.
