About The Position

Ampcus Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Senior MS SQL Database Administrator to join their talented Team. The SQL Server / Cloud DBA will administer and support SQL Server and cloud databases for the Tolling Engineering and Operations Team. This role also includes help desk and application support responsibilities as part of a rotation with the team. The ideal candidate will leverage and utilize O/S scripting utilities, review existing database implementations, and propose/execute necessary changes. They will perform SQL Server installations, support SQL Server databases, work with SQL clustering, mirroring, and high availability, and write Transact-SQL. The position involves working on a Windows platform, applying data modeling principles, and working with Azure Cloud. Support for technologies including SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS is also required, along with collaboration with Engineering and Operations professionals. The candidate must communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, and independently perform a variety of complicated tasks using experience and judgment.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  • At least 1 year of Azure, Snowflake, or Databricks experience. A certification is acceptable in lieu of experience.
  • Master’s degree in computer science, information systems, or other applicable and/or equivalent skills, knowledge, and/or work history.
  • Demonstrated experience communicating effectively using standard requirements and design artifacts.
  • Minimum 3–4 years of hands-on experience upgrading SQL Server tolling environments from SQL Server 2012 to SQL Server 2019, including compatibility evaluations, Query Tuning Assistant, and Database Migration Assistant.
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving deadlocks and blocking in production workloads, including Extended Events, Query Store, and wait statistic analysis.
  • Experience tuning Very Large Databases (2 TB+) including index optimization, long-running workload analysis, and minimizing resource contention.
  • Expertise working as a SQL Server DBA.
  • Expertise with SQL clustering, mirroring, and high availability.
  • Experience tuning SQL Server databases.
  • Expertise installing, upgrading, patching, and migrating SQL Server databases.
  • Experience working on a Windows platform.
  • Experience working with Azure Cloud.
  • Fingerprint-based background check required.
  • Candidates must physically reside within the United States for the duration of the assignment.
  • Candidate must be available for both webcam and in-person interviews.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SQL Server 2019+.
  • Experience with cloud databases, including Azure, Snowflake, and/or Databricks.
  • Exposure to SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS.
  • Knowledge of data modeling principles.
  • Contractor must continue education at their own expense to stay current with required technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and support SQL Server and cloud databases.

  • Work on a Windows platform.
