About The Position

HHSC is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to support enterprise databases, data warehouses, data marts, reporting environments, and decision-support systems. The selected candidate will assist with database architecture, administration, implementation, performance monitoring, data modeling, ETL processes, security, backup and recovery, accessibility compliance, and production support. The position requires strong technical expertise, analytical ability, communication skills, and experience working with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

Requirements

• At least five years of experience in Database management systems.
• At least five years of experience in Data warehouse management and decision-support tools.
• At least five years of experience in Development, implementation, and maintenance of data warehouses and data marts.
• At least five years of experience in Business Objects and enterprise data-dictionary development.
• At least five years of experience in Database access tools used for application delivery.
• At least five years of experience in Analysis, planning, and management reporting.
• At least five years of experience in Data-warehouse population and data-modeling techniques.
• At least five years of experience in Star schemas, snowflake schemas, and highly normalized data models.
• At least five years of experience in GUI-based ETL tools such as Informatica, IBM WebSphere DataStage, or comparable platforms.
• At least five years of experience in Enterprise databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata, or comparable technologies.
• At least five years of experience in Analytical and reporting tools such as Business Objects, Cognos, Hyperion, MicroStrategy, or comparable platforms.
• At least five years of experience in End-to-end data-warehouse implementation, including: Business requirements analysis, Logical data modeling, Physical database design, Data sourcing and transformation, Data loading, SQL development, End-user reporting tools, Database and SQL performance tuning, Database benchmarking processes and technique.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, monitor, and optimize enterprise database environments.
• Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of data warehouses and data marts.
• Perform logical and physical data modeling.
• Design relational database structures and translate logical models into physical database designs.
• Develop and maintain star schemas, snowflake schemas, and normalized data models.
• Create, maintain, and enforce standards for enterprise data dictionaries.
• Evaluate requests for new data elements and incorporate approved changes into shared data environments.
• Coordinate data usage to maintain integrity, consistency, and controlled redundancy.
• Use database access tools to support application delivery and reporting requirements.
• Support ETL processes, including data sourcing, transformation, loading, and validation.
• Monitor database performance and perform SQL and database performance tuning.
• Benchmark databases and conduct threshold and performance testing.
• Determine database storage, indexing, and search requirements.
• Develop and execute backup, restoration, disaster recovery, and database recovery procedures.
• Assist with database security standards, access controls, and security monitoring.
• Create and maintain database environments for application development and testing.
• Install, configure, and evaluate database management software.
• Review database-related programs and coordinate required changes with developers and systems analysts.
• Analyze the impact of database changes on connected applications, systems, users, and operating costs.
• Develop and support analytical reports using enterprise reporting tools.
• Provide technical assistance to users experiencing data-access or reporting issues.
• Ensure database administration tools, reports, and data interfaces comply with Electronic and Information Resources accessibility standards.
• Support users when accessibility issues affect their ability to retrieve or review information.
• Collaborate with technical and business teams while managing multiple responsibilities.
