Data Systems Analyst, Senior-IRIM
About The Position
The Data Systems Analyst, Senior-IRIM creates and maintains a data warehouse environment for the Institutional Research and Information Management (IRIM) Department and the campus. The position serves as project leader for designated IRIM projects, creates internet-based user input and query interfaces for flexible, user-defined data marts, develops ways to improve data warehouse performance, and serves as a liaison between IRIM and IT technical staff. The role provides database administration and develops integrated intranet systems and web-based data warehouse interfaces. It also evaluates and improves reporting tools and mechanisms, prepares user-support documentation, participates in project planning and implementation, and structures databases to optimize access and security. The analyst consults users and design teams to document system purposes, workflows, output needs, and requirements. The position also develops and maintains knowledge of the SunGard SCT Banner system to support data warehouse development and performs related departmental duties as required.
Requirements
- Advanced knowledge of database design and maintenance and user input and query interface design, typically acquired through a master's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of formal education and experience.
- Expert-level computer programming and analysis skills in a distributed systems environment, typically acquired through at least six years of progressively more responsible and complex experience.
- At least three years of experience designing, maintaining, and modifying databases and related software.
- Familiarity with dimensional modeling for continued data warehouse development.
- Familiarity with the UNIX operating system, Oracle databases, and industry-standard web application development tools such as PHP.
- Familiarity with a source code management system such as Subversion.

Responsibilities
- Provide database administrative functions in building a data warehouse.
- Design fully integrated Intranet systems that include applications, databases, networks, and related systems.
- Develop a web-based interface with the data warehouse that allows users to create data marts flexibly.
- Evaluate and recommend new reporting tools for IRIM.
- Research and improve reporting mechanisms.
- Prepare documentation to support users of new IRIM systems and operations procedures.
- Participate in scope definition, feasibility analysis, design, and implementation as an integral member of the technical team.
- Structure and implement databases to optimize data access and security.
- Maintain data security and integrity by implementing system access standards and procedures.
- Consult with users or design teams to identify and document software/system purpose, workflow issues, output needs, and overall IRIM system requirements and specifications.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of the SunGard SCT Banner system, including its documentation, entity-relationship diagrams, and foreign-key relationships, to support data warehouse development.
- Perform related departmental duties as required.
- Lead designated IRIM projects.
- Serve as liaison between IRIM and IT technical staff.
- Develop effective methods to improve data warehouse performance.
