Data Storytelling and Insight Specialist

EnterpriseKCLeawood, KS

About The Position

Help EnterpriseKC create substantial value for the people and organizations it serves by understanding what they need to know, finding or developing the data and information that matter, and turning what is learned into insights that resonate. The Specialist combines hard numbers with research, context, and real experiences, then brings the story to life through the presentations, reports, dashboards, and digital experiences best suited to the audience. These touchpoints work together: one may create the memorable experience, another may provide depth and credibility, and another may invite continued exploration. The role reports to the Pillar 8 Leader and partners with designated Pillar, project, and product leads. The Specialist should wake up every morning thinking: Who are we trying to help, what do they need to understand, what data and human experiences will reveal it, and how can I turn those insights into something they will remember, use, and return to?

Requirements

  • Understand audience needs and translate them into useful research and intelligence questions.
  • Find, evaluate, organize, analyze, and interpret data and information from multiple sources.
  • Identify patterns, contrasts, implications, gaps, and opportunities within quantitative and qualitative evidence.
  • Conduct interviews and other forms of discovery that illuminate people's experiences.
  • Build clear narratives that synthesize data-driven insights, contextual information, and memorable moments.
  • Write and present effectively for executive, government, industry, workforce, academic, community, and public audiences.
  • Create or guide charts, presentations, reports, dashboards, digital stories, and other visual products.
  • Orchestrate complementary deliverables that provide different levels of depth while advancing one coherent story.
  • Use appropriate presentation, spreadsheet, charting, research, dashboard, design, and publishing tools; advanced programming is not required.

Nice To Haves

  • Deeply curious about people, data, and the connection between them.
  • Motivated to discover what matters, not simply communicate what is readily available.
  • Able to recognize the story inside complex information and the human experiences behind the numbers.
  • Creative enough to produce memorable work and analytical enough to ensure it is meaningful.
  • Empathetic, observant, resourceful, collaborative, and energized by creating value for others.
  • Accountable for the quality of the insight, the finished experience, and what happens after delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the people and organizations EnterpriseKC serves to understand what matters to them and what the work should help them decide, understand, or accomplish.
  • Locate and assess relevant data, research, organizational knowledge, partner perspectives, and real-world experiences.
  • Identify important information gaps and work with the right teams to obtain or generate what is missing.
  • Explore and interpret information to uncover patterns, comparisons, implications, and opportunities that create value for the audience.
  • Conduct or coordinate interviews, conversations, observations, and other research that adds meaningful human context to the numbers.
  • Synthesize data-driven findings, useful context, and memorable moments into a clear and compelling story.
  • Create or guide presentations, reports, briefs, charts, dashboard content, and digital experiences that express the insight in the form best suited to the audience.
  • Plan complementary deliverables as a connected set of touchpoints that help people encounter the story, explore it more deeply, and return to it over time.
  • Observe how people engage with the work, gather feedback, and improve both the insight and the experience through which it is delivered.
  • Collaborate with Pillar, project, product, data, research, communications, design, and technology teams to bring the complete experience together.
  • Manage multiple assignments, priorities, review rounds, and handoffs with strong follow-through.
  • Protect confidential, proprietary, licensed, partner, and personal information.
  • Maintain clear connections between the finished story and the information, research, and experiences that support it.
  • Remain current on research, data analysis, visualization, presentation design, digital storytelling, accessibility, and responsible use of artificial intelligence.
