About The Position

The Data Sourcing & Strategy Associate is part of Bridgewater’s Research, Data Strategy and Acquisition function and works at the front edge of its Investment Data practice. The role contributes to the execution and evolution of relationship management, supplier knowledge management, and internal stakeholder management. It engages with investors, associates, engineers, vendors, and other external sources to improve understanding of external offerings and communicate Bridgewater’s needs, with attention to quality management and business alignment. The associate works across investment workflows, sourcing and supplier challenges, internal demand, and vendor engagement strategy. The role regularly communicates assessments to investment professionals, vendors and service providers, Management, Compliance, Legal, and Finance, and collaborates with people across the firm and with existing and prospective vendors. The position includes structured on-the-job training, external engagement, apprenticeship, and collaboration with experienced colleagues. Over time, the associate may represent the firm in important vendor, counterparty, and provider management discussions. The anticipated onsite schedule is three days per week at the Westport, Connecticut campus and one day per week at the New York City campus. The wage range is $170,000–$225,000, inclusive of base salary and discretionary target bonus; expected base salary is 70%–80% of that range.

Requirements

Four-year degree from an accredited undergraduate institution.
3–7 years of relevant work experience at an investment bank, vendor/service provider, or asset management firm.
Experience in at least two of the following: Relationship Management, Supplier Knowledge Management, or Colleague Management.
Curiosity, practicality, analytical ability, capability, and willingness to fail, learn, and engage broadly with diverse international people and processes.
Ability to manage a high volume of work across diverse functions and competing priorities while communicating and executing effectively.
Systems-oriented thinking and an inclination to solve problems by evolving systems.
A high degree of personal responsibility and ownership.
Willingness to work across levels, from basic task execution to complex, multi-month and multi-modal efforts.

Nice To Haves

Experience with capital markets market or research data is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

Execute across the systems, sourcing, supply chains, and internal demand used to acquire, provide, and maintain data for investment requests, helping clarify requests that are unspecified or overly prescribed.
Understand known and unknown external offerings, create potential market matches and indications of interest, and discern and select structures from the external market.
Own investment asks that are unspecified or over-specified when the investor or colleague cannot articulate what they need.
Understand and communicate the status of components of the sourcing portfolio and knowledge bases of passes, no bids, and deferred opportunities.
Build, maintain, and rapidly sort inbound possibilities, candidate sources, and existing data sources and services in the sourcing portfolio.
Improve and execute the ML/AI layer being introduced into the external discovery and matching process.
Create and document initiatives to improve the quality, reliability, and efficiency of the practice’s systems.
Continuously evaluate and improve processes for sourcing, vetting, and delivering content at scale.
Advocate with existing and potential vendors to improve the quality of their pitches.
Communicate understanding and assessments to investment professionals, vendors and service providers, Management, Compliance, Legal, and Finance.
Engage with existing and prospective vendors and collaborate with colleagues across the firm.
