About The Position

The Data Solutions Architect will define and execute the enterprise data strategy underpinning Charles River Development (CRD) and the State Street Alpha platform. This role positions data as a strategic asset—powering product innovation, client experience, analytics, and AI-driven capabilities—while enabling scalable, secure, and commercially differentiated data services. The successful candidate will operate as a member of the senior leadership team, shaping firm-wide data direction across CRD and influencing the broader State Street ecosystem. This role combines technical depth, strategic vision, and the ability to scale processes, and platforms to enable data-driven product innovation and client outcomes. The team you will be joining is part of Charles River Development (CRD), a division of State Street. CRD delivers enterprise investment management solutions across institutional asset managers, wealth managers, and asset owners. You will be part of the team responsible for building and transforming the Alpha Data Platform, an industry-leading investment management data platform and a key strategic initiative for State Street, enabling the industry’s first true front-to-back-office solution. This includes delivering the next-generation, cloud-based investment data management platform leveraging best in class technologies including AI.

Requirements

  • 20+ years of software and data engineering experience with at least 10 years in leadership roles overseeing large-scale data platforms.
  • Proven track record defining and delivering enterprise data architecture and cloud-native platform transformations.
  • Deep knowledge of distributed data systems, including data warehouses, lakehouses, streaming platforms, and real-time processing frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with modern technologies such as Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, Kafka, and orchestration frameworks.
  • Strong experience establishing automated engineering standards including DevOps/DataOps practices, CI/CD, and Product Security
  • Experience implementing data governance, security, privacy, and regulatory controls in a financial services environment.
  • Proven leadership ability including hiring, mentoring, and scaling engineering organizations.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to influence senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the enterprise end to end data strategy and functional architecture across CRD aligned with State Street Alpha priorities
  • Lead the evolution toward cloud-native, event-driven, and real-time data architectures, including ingestion, transformation, storage, governance, and distribution
  • Drive adoption of modern technologies including Snowflake, Databricks, streaming platforms, and cloud-native infrastructure
  • Establish scalable patterns for data sharing, APIs, data marketplaces, and client-facing access models
  • Establish data foundations for AI/ML and generative AI use cases, including high-quality, governed, and discoverable datasets
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Architecture, and Client-facing teams to translate business requirements into scalable, reliable, and sustainable data solutions.
  • Define and lead the data product strategy, including domain-oriented data products and reusable data assets
  • Drive adoption of data-enabled capabilities that enhance client outcomes, operational efficiency, and competitive differentiation
  • Partner with product leadership to embed data as a core feature of CRD and Alpha offerings
  • Partner with Sales and Professional Service teams to define and deliver data-driven client solutions and commercialization strategies
  • Define, and set guidelines around enterprise data governance, including lineage, cataloging, metadata, security, and regulatory compliance
  • Establish data quality frameworks, SLAs, and data contracts to ensure data is accurate, timely, and auditable
  • Ensure adherence to privacy, security, and regulatory requirements across global markets
  • Define operational excellence including reliability, incident management, performance optimization, and cost efficiency for data platforms.
  • Partner and influence global R&D teams across multiple geographies to execute on the data strategy
  • Mentor senior leaders and develop a strong leadership pipeline
  • Drive cross-functional alignment and represent data strategy to executive leadership.
