About The Position

Data Scientists translate complex national defense and intelligence questions and business problems into actionable insights using advanced mathematical, statistical, and scientific techniques. They develop and apply methods such as probabilistic modeling, artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), and computer vision to identify, collect, process, and analyze large volumes of data. The role requires experience using data sets or analytic tools to meet customer or mission requirements, conducting exploratory data analysis and statistical analyses, and cleaning, filtering, transforming, or enriching data. Candidates should also know visualization techniques or tools. This is a Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS) position in the Excepted Service. NGA assigns non-executive employees to pay bands, with base salary established according to qualifications. Annual performance evaluations inform a performance-pay process that may result in a base salary increase and/or bonus. The position requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and retain a Top Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), including a Counterintelligence Polygraph examination. Employees may be subject to random periodic examinations and, with SCI access under NGA cognizance, must submit an annual Security Financial Disclosure Report. The position may offer a recruitment incentive, subject to eligibility and a service agreement requiring prorated repayment if terminated before completion.
