About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Scientist with a strong background in Large Language Models (LLMs) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems. The ideal candidate has direct experience applying AI within the utility, energy, or industrial sector. The Data Scientist will lead the design, development, and deployment of intelligent systems that translate unstructured operational data, including technical manuals, maintenance logs, and field reports, into actionable insights.

This is a 6–12 month contract role located in Wayne, Indiana, with a hybrid work arrangement.

Requirements

• Professional experience in Data Science or Machine Learning.
• At least 1 year of experience specifically focused on LLMs and Generative AI.
• Advanced proficiency in Python, including PyTorch or TensorFlow, LangChain, and LlamaIndex.
• Proficiency in SQL.
• Proven experience in the utility, energy, oil and gas, or heavy industrial sectors.
• Hands-on experience with vector embeddings, semantic search, and prompt engineering.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize RAG pipelines to enhance LLM-driven troubleshooting and field operations.
• Fine-tune and evaluate LLMs, such as GPT-4 and Llama 3, for task-specific reasoning and accuracy.
• Develop high-quality Python code to integrate vector databases, such as Pinecone, Milvus, and Weaviate, to store and retrieve technical utility documents efficiently.
• Apply LLM solutions to analyze unstructured utility data, including asset management logs, SCADA alerts, and maintenance records.
• Work with software engineers to deploy and scale models in cloud environments such as Azure and AWS.
• Collaborate with field operations, engineering teams, and stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver solutions.
