About The Position

As the Cloud SME, this role serves as the primary architect for USCYBERCOM’s hybrid- and multi-cloud environments, including AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, and MilCloud. The position designs secure cloud environments that host Cyber Operations Integrated Planning (COIP) tools and the Joint Cyber Warfighting Architecture (JCWA), supporting high availability, rapid scalability, and security for global mission sets. The role leads cloud architecture and implementation for defensive and offensive cyber mission enclaves, automation through infrastructure as code, cloud security and Zero Trust practices, and the cloud infrastructure needed for AI/ML processing. It also provides FinOps guidance and leads technical documentation and engineering efforts to obtain Authority to Operate for cloud services and mission applications.

Requirements

  • 12 or more years of experience in IT or engineering.
  • At least 6 years of dedicated experience architecting DoD or Intelligence Community cloud environments.
  • Deep expertise in AWS GovCloud and/or Azure Government.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Kubernetes, EKS, or AKS for orchestrating microservices.
  • Proficiency building CI/CD pipelines that integrate automated security scanning, including SAST and DAST.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Cloud Computing, or a related field.
  • IAT Level III certification, such as CISSP, CASP+, or CISM, per DoD 8570/8140.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise architecting and maintaining hybrid-cloud connectivity solutions such as AWS Direct Connect and Azure ExpressRoute, bridging on-premises DoD data centers with GovCloud while meeting low-latency and high-security requirements.
  • Experience prototyping edge-cloud capabilities and tactical cloud nodes for forward-deployed Cyber Mission Teams operating in disconnected or bandwidth-constrained environments.
  • Proven ability to lead the full lifecycle of complex cloud migrations, transitioning legacy mission tools from on-premises hardware to serverless or containerized architectures.
  • Technical familiarity with secure data transfers and service orchestration across classification levels, including NIPR, SIPR, and JWICS.
  • High-level credentials such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or Azure Solutions Architect Expert.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of large-scale cloud architectures supporting Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO) and Offensive Cyber Operations (OCO) mission enclaves.
  • Drive automated infrastructure provisioning using Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible so environments are repeatable, auditable, and disposable.
  • Implement Zero Trust Architecture in cloud environments, including identity-based access (ICAM) and micro-segmentation of mission data.
  • Partner with the AI SME to architect GPU-compute clusters and high-speed storage for large-scale data processing and model inference.
  • Provide FinOps guidance and optimize cloud spending while preserving burst capacity for active cyber engagements.
  • Lead technical documentation and engineering efforts to achieve Authority to Operate (ATO) for new cloud services and custom-built mission applications.
