About The Position

Pinterest is seeking Data Science interns to contribute to the evolution and shaping of its product. Interns will apply quantitative analysis, statistical techniques, modeling, and data mining while collaborating with engineering and product partners. The work will influence team roadmaps, identify product opportunities, refine the experimentation platform, and drive key initiatives by translating insights into real-world products. This role involves working with AI as a partner to augment creativity and amplify impact, requiring candidates to explain their approach and demonstrate how they think. The internship is a 12-week paid program with fixed start dates in May or June, and will be located either remotely or hybrid in San Francisco, Palo Alto, New York, or Seattle offices.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, applied sciences, computer science or related field.
  • Ability to manipulate large data sets with high dimensionality and complexity.
  • Fluency in SQL and a scripting language (Python or R).
  • Experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches including in the fields of Machine Learning, Statistical Modeling, Forecasting, Econometrics or other related fields.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain learnings to both technical and non-technical partners.
  • Ability to connect data analysis to real business problems, in order to impact business performance.
  • Strong critical thinking when working with AI-generated suggestions, with a clear approach to validating correctness, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Comfort iterating on prompts, refining workflows, and adapting AI-assisted approaches based on the problem, context, and constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to our product roadmap and mission using data and exploratory analysis to understand user behavior and trends, and identify opportunities for product innovation.
  • Design and implement core metrics that guide team efforts.
  • Help design and evaluate A/B experiments that drive these metrics.
  • Explore alternative experimentation techniques to help internal teams evaluate their ideas faster.
  • Work cross-functionally to build and communicate key insights.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, designers, and researchers to help build the next experiences on Pinterest.
