About The Position

Prometeo Talent is collaborating with a company that offers data protection, disaster recovery, and IT infrastructure solutions, helping businesses secure and optimize their critical systems. This role is for a senior, architecture-minded Data Protection Engineer with deep expertise in backup, recovery, and scale-out storage. The engineer will be responsible for sizing, architecting, and designing solutions for complex environments and acting as the final technical authority when problems arise. The role involves working directly with customers across various industries to solve challenging design and support issues, and serving as the escalation path for L1, L2, and L3 support engineers. The ideal candidate is deeply technical, enjoys architecting resilient systems, and genuinely enjoys working with people. The position is 90% remote, with occasional in-person meetings and installs, and is located in Southern California.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in similar roles working with the technologies listed below
  • Windows and Linux administration
  • VMware vSphere
  • IP networks
  • Cloud platforms (AWS / GCP / Azure / OCI)
  • Scale-out storage (Qumulo / Isilon / NetApp)
  • Data Protection / Backup & Recovery software (Cohesity, Rubrik, Commvault, Veeam, Keepit, Zerto). Experience with any one of these transfers well; our environment runs on Cohesity.
  • Experience as a System Architect / Administrator
  • Experience as a Storage Architect / Administrator
  • Experience as a Backup Architect / Administrator
  • AI dev/coding agents
  • Strong, professional English

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Git / version control, M365 / Entra, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible, Packer), or Kubernetes is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Size, architect, and design data protection, disaster recovery, and scale-out storage solutions for a variety of workloads and clients.
  • Bring new products and processes to life to meet customer demand, improve service SLAs, and minimize availability and recoverability gaps.
  • Serve as the escalation point for L1, L2, and L3 support engineers.
  • Work directly with customers to solve the most challenging design and support issues, and provide clear action plans that put them at ease.
  • Automate the collection of backup system health, backup and recovery jobs, and general environment status; streamline repeatable tasks and processes.
  • Monitor backup systems and performance, identify issues that need attention, troubleshoot, and resolve.
  • Troubleshoot outages and perform root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
  • Configure access using a least-privileged approach, audit, and ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Communicate upgrade and rollback plans, and execute upgrades.
  • Communicate with clients, understand their needs, and build lasting trust.
