About The Position

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Data Project Manager that will actively coordinate and execute research and data management projects across Canada, with a focus on Indigenous history and cultural research. In this role, you will manage the day-to-day movement of projects by building detailed schedules, assigning tasks, tracking deliverables, monitoring budgets, and following up directly with team members to ensure deadlines are met. You will work collaboratively to enhance efficiency and support all functional areas. Developing and implementing communications and reporting strategies you will also manage schedules, budgets, resourcing, compliance and risk management with the support from a Project Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in project management, social sciences, data management, or a related field and/or Project Management certification
  • 3-5 years of experience managing complex research or data-driven projects, particularly those related to Indigenous issues.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in project management software and quality assurance methodologies.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for stakeholder and team meetings.
  • Strong knowledge of archival research, Indigenous history, and cultural sensitivity practices.
  • Eligible for PWGSC security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English and French considered an asset).
  • Familiarity with Prosci change management methodologies considered an asset
  • Expertise in cultural safety best practice considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee comprehensive data project plans, including objectives, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Lead teams to meet critical milestones and deliverables, ensuring alignment with internal and external stakeholder objectives.
  • Build and maintain project schedules, task trackers, and workflows.
  • Assign and monitor tasks to ensure milestones and deadlines are met.
  • Track budgets, expenses, risks, and issues; escalate and support resolution.
  • Coordinate approvals, documentation, and ensure files area accurate and audit-ready
  • Lead team meetings, set agendas, document action items, and ensure follow-up.
  • Provide day-to-day direction to remove blockers and maintain project momentum.
  • Coordinate cross-functional collaboration and monitor team capacity.
  • Guide and mentor team members to support strong performance and accountability
  • Maintain transparent and culturally sensitive communication with clients, communities, and partners.
  • Uphold respect for Indigenous protocols, values, and cultural safety principles.
  • Collaborate on projects addressing key issues like MMIWG, Métis rights, Truth and Reconciliation, or related priorities identified by First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities.
  • Prepare reports, briefings, dashboards, and progress updates.
  • Maintain organized, secure digital records in compliance with data policies.
  • Track reporting requirements and document lessons learned at project close-out
