Data Product Manager

Kin Insurance•St. Petersburg, FL
•$139,000 - $166,500•Remote

About The Position

Kin is seeking a Data Product Manager to enable the data products behind its core insurance decisions, including pricing, underwriting, actuarial analysis, and claims. The role makes data from multiple systems usable so decision-making teams can understand what is happening and why. Rather than owning insurance decisions, the Data Product Manager identifies the underlying questions teams need answered, shapes the datasets they need, and partners with data engineering to build and ship data products. The role connects data across internal and external systems, including claims platforms Snapsheet and Xactimate and vendor loss-modeling sources RMS and Verisk. It also establishes reliable, shared definitions for core insurance metrics, improves data quality and instrumentation, and enables teams to analyze metrics without waiting for one-off data pulls. The position works closely with pricing, actuarial, underwriting, claims, and data engineering teams to turn complex, multi-source data into clear insights and actionable recommendations. Kin is a remote-first company, with eligible work locations limited to specified U.S. states. Its benefits include equity through RSUs, retirement matching, health coverage, paid leave, and professional development support.

Requirements

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in product management, data analytics, or an analytical role close to the insurance business.
  • Business judgment about how data is used to make decisions; ideally, experience as an analyst making recommendations rather than only shipping features.
  • Advanced SQL skills and ability to independently pull and join data across multiple sources.
  • Comfort working with a modern data stack such as Databricks and Looker.
  • Ability to investigate the underlying question rather than taking an initial request at face value.
  • Precision in defining metrics used for pricing or claims decisions.
  • Ability to use AI to increase personal throughput and prototype ideas quickly.
  • Experience partnering with engineering teams to scope and ship work.
  • Familiarity with the insurance business or a clear appetite to learn it quickly.
  • Clear, concise communication with both technical and business audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in InsurTech or FinTech, especially homeowners insurance, and familiarity with concepts such as loss ratio, premium, underwriting, and catastrophe risk.
  • Familiarity with insurance systems such as Snapsheet or Xactimate, or catastrophe modeling from RMS and Verisk.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate the decision behind requests from pricing, underwriting, actuarial, or claims teams by asking questions to identify the underlying need.
  • Enable data products that support insurance decisions, including datasets for rate reviews and views used by claims teams.
  • Connect data across systems, including Snapsheet, Xactimate, RMS, and Verisk, and ensure changes across those systems are understood and handled.
  • Build supporting datasets proactively so teams can investigate metrics and problems without waiting for new data pulls.
  • Scope and deliver data products in partnership with data engineering.
  • Own the data layer as the single source of truth for core insurance metrics, including loss ratio and pricing accuracy, to support consistent, self-serve analysis.
  • Define metrics precisely before they are released, particularly metrics used for pricing and risk-selection decisions.
  • Improve data quality and instrumentation so decisions are based on trusted numbers.
  • Translate complex, multi-source data into clear explanations and actionable recommendations.
  • Partner with pricing, actuarial, underwriting, claims, and data engineering teams to turn insights into decisions.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and company equity through Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), based on role and level.
  • 401(k) with company match up to 4% of eligible earnings.
  • Multiple medical plan options, plus dental and vision coverage.
  • Company-funded HSA contributions, depending on medical plan selection.
  • Company-paid life insurance and short-term disability.
  • Supplemental benefit options, including long-term disability, critical illness, accident, legal, and pet insurance.
  • Access to mental health support and confidential counseling resources.
  • Flexible PTO for exempt employees; most employees take 15–20 days per year.
  • Eight company-observed holidays.
  • Paid parental leave, including up to 14 weeks at 100% pay for birthing parents and 8 weeks at 100% pay for non-birthing parents.
  • Career mobility and internal growth opportunities.
  • Professional development budgets for certifications, conferences, and learning, subject to management approval.
