Product Data Manager

Mai Placement•Newark, NJ

About The Position

This is a new role with an established distributor that manages hundreds of thousands of SKUs from hundreds of vendors across online and B2B sales channels. The Product Data Manager will own product data—including descriptions, images, categories, product groups, variants, and large data exports—and ensure changes are accurately reflected in the ERP and across sales channels. The role involves investigating reported listing, barcode, and synchronization issues, identifying root causes, and preventing recurring problems. The person in this role will build processes and quality controls from scratch, work closely with the pricing and vendor data lead, and help coordinate offshore support resources as the function grows. The position is on-site in Northern New Jersey, with a stated salary range of $90,000–$130,000 based on experience.

Requirements

  • Highly comfortable using Excel, including XLOOKUP, lookups, pivot tables, and data-cleaning formulas.
  • Experience working with large datasets and bulk updates.
  • Extremely detail-oriented.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and interest in untangling complex data issues.
  • Team-oriented, communicative, and comfortable sharing knowledge and workload.
  • Fast learner who actively picks up new tools and systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Cloud ERP experience; Acumatica is a major advantage.
  • SQL skills, including queries, joins, and filtering.
  • Power Query experience.
  • E-commerce or marketplace catalog management experience, with an understanding of category structure and clean product data.
  • Distribution, wholesale, or other high-SKU industry background.

Responsibilities

  • Own product content across all channels, including descriptions, specifications, images, categories, and attributes.
  • Build and maintain product groups and variants, such as size, color, and style, across a large catalog.
  • Manage and update listings on the company website, third-party platforms, and catalogs.
  • Run large data exports and imports; clean, review, and validate data before it goes live.
  • Act as the central point of contact for data issues reported by purchasing, the warehouse, and sales; investigate, resolve, and document each issue.
  • Identify root causes of recurring errors and synchronization problems, then improve the processes behind them.
  • Map and import new vendor catalogs into the system.
  • Partner with the pricing and vendor data lead, divide ownership clearly, and provide cross-coverage when needed.
  • Work with purchasing, sales, and operations to support their data needs.
  • Build repeatable workflows and quality controls for the new function.
  • Train and coordinate offshore support resources as the function scales, with a path to formal team leadership.
