About The Position

The Data Platform SRE Observability Engineer focuses on infrastructure reliability and monitoring across the organization’s data and infrastructure stacks. The role develops end-to-end monitoring for systems including Trino, Kubernetes, databases, Apache Ozone, and Hadoop; automates collection of DORA metrics; builds service-health dashboards; and improves monitoring coverage and alerting. The engineer also serves as the team’s monitoring expert, supporting reliable, actionable observability while reducing routine dashboard and alerting work for team leads.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of DevOps/SRE experience and at least 5 years of experience in IT.
  • Experience as an SRE or monitoring engineer, emphasizing infrastructure reliability rather than product feature development.
  • Experience with Python.
  • Deep knowledge of Prometheus, Grafana, and Alertmanager, including writing complex PromQL queries and addressing alert fatigue.
  • Practical understanding of SLI/SLO/SLA concepts, error budgets, and the methodology for collecting DORA metrics.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and databases, and the ability to quickly understand metrics for distributed systems such as Hadoop and Trino.
  • Ability to translate abstract system behavior and logs into clear, structured, actionable metrics.
  • Experience working with ClickHouse, Vertica, StarRocks, or Greenplum.

  • Audit existing metrics and address infrastructure monitoring gaps, particularly in Kubernetes, databases, and distributed storage systems.
  • Optimize and update Alertmanager rules to detect incidents and anomalies before they affect users or are manually noticed.
  • Serve as the single point of expertise in monitoring, reducing team leads’ routine dashboard configuration and alerting support tasks.
