About The Position

This is a non-sworn, part-time position assigned to the Police Department working 25-30 hours per week with no fringe benefits. Under general supervision performs clerical and filing duties of moderate difficulty; performs data entry; types police reports; and performs related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of correct English usage, including punctuation and spelling
  • Knowledge of filing and record keeping methods
  • Knowledge of word processing/computer equipment
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
  • Ability to type 35 net WPM
  • Ability to operate standard and specialized office and duplicating equipment
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to determine and apply procedures for handling unique problems
  • Ability to work under established procedures and effectively perform detail-oriented work
  • Ability to work rapidly and accurately with names, numbers, codes, and symbols
  • Ability to exercise good judgment with a memory for details
  • Ability to recognize and keep information confidential
  • Typing certificate must be from an accredited school or agency. Online certificates will not be accepted.
  • Graduation from high school or G.E.D. required
  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting including use of standard office equipment, including a computer
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle
  • Must be able to visit various City sites
  • Must have vision to read printed materials and a computer screen
  • Must have hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone
  • Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 50 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in the above duties is highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Uses computer to perform data entry and data base searches
  • Classifies and files reports and citations
  • Transcribes police reports
  • Reviews citations and other documents for accuracy
  • Sorts and processes citations and necessary correction documents
  • Places records in numerical order
  • Acts as liaison with the courts regarding citation processing
  • Answers telephones
  • Operates various office equipment, including, but not limited to, computer, fax, photocopier, and shredder
  • Performs other duties as assigned
