The data team is organized into Data Engineering, Data Science, and Strategic Analytics. Data Engineering is responsible for the warehouse, orchestration layer, and pipelines that move data. Focus areas for the year include real-time event ingestion, redesigning the risk decisioning service, AI-agent data access on Redshift Serverless, ERP/EDI standardization with Finance and Accounting, and AI-assisted workflows across the engineering lifecycle. As a Data Engineering intern, the primary responsibility is learning through doing real work, including building data pipelines, designing tools and infrastructure for analyzing large data volumes, and working on data warehousing problems with the owning team. Interns will partner with stakeholders across Risk, Commerce, Marketing, Ops, and Finance, and use technologies such as AWS (Redshift, Glue, ECS, DMS), Fivetran, Airflow, DataHub, Terraform, Python, and SQL.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in or will receive a Master's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Management, Information Systems, Mathematics, or an equivalent technical discipline, with an expected graduation date between winter 2027 – summer 2028, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience using SQL for acquiring and transforming data.
• Experience with database and/or data warehouse operations.
• Exposure to third-party APIs.
• Experience with object-oriented programming languages (Python preferred).

Nice To Haves

• Previous work experience in a technical field
• Exposure to open-source data tooling and cloud computing systems
• Understanding of data types and storage paradigms

Responsibilities

• Build data pipelines.
• Help design tools and infrastructure for analyzing large volumes of data.
• Work through real data warehousing problems alongside the team that owns them.
• Partner directly with stakeholders across Risk, Commerce, Marketing, Ops, and Finance.
• Get hands-on with the full stack, including AWS (Redshift, Glue, ECS, DMS), Fivetran, Airflow, DataHub, Terraform, Python, and SQL.
• Introduce yourself on Slack and meet your team.
• Get oriented in the warehouse, walk through most-used pipelines, and read codebase.
• Get fluent in Airflow setup and Redshift conventions.
• Scope your first real project with a mentor, including design decisions and trade-offs.
• Ship your first commit (bug fix, documentation update, or small improvement).
• Ship a pipeline, tool, or infrastructure improvement that the team relies on after you're gone.
• Present your work to the broader team.
• Meet with various business owners across the company to build your network and understand how a data team fits into a fast-paced startup.
