About The Position

Avra's Foundation AI is powered by a critical data platform that ingests, structures, and operationalizes real-world data into reliable inputs for models and products. As a Data Engineer, you will help build and evolve this platform, transforming messy SMB data into structured, usable datasets. This is a hands-on role focused on learning by doing in production, working alongside senior engineers to implement pipelines, improve workflows, and enhance system reliability. You are expected to be curious, delve deep into problems, and develop strong judgment by working on impactful real systems. Over time, you will gain ownership of increasingly critical parts of the platform.

Requirements

  • Experience working with data pipelines or backend systems
  • Comfortable writing Python for data processing or automation
  • Solid SQL skills and understanding of basic data modeling concepts
  • Curiosity about how systems work in production and a desire to understand failures
  • Comfortable asking questions and digging deeper into problems
  • Preference for simple, clear solutions over unnecessary complexity
  • 2–4 years of experience in data engineering, backend engineering, or related roles
  • Experience with Python and SQL
  • Some exposure to data pipelines or distributed systems
  • Strong learning orientation and willingness to take feedback and iterate quickly
  • Ability to work in a team, communicate clearly, and ask for help when needed

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with tools like dbt, Airflow, Dagster, or cloud platforms

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain data pipelines.
  • Implement pipelines that ingest and process data from APIs, files, and external systems.
  • Contribute to orchestration workflows.
  • Work with tools like Dagster (or similar) to build and maintain data workflows.
  • Support data modeling efforts.
  • Help structure datasets and transformation layers to improve usability and consistency.
  • Work with real-world data issues.
  • Investigate data inconsistencies, handle schema changes, and debug pipeline failures.
  • Improve reliability over time.
  • Add monitoring, logging, and checks to make systems more observable and stable.
  • Collaborate with the team.
  • Work closely with senior engineers and other teams to understand problems and implement solutions.

Benefits

  • Attractive salary and equity participation
  • Direct influence on the foundation of Avra’s data platform and its evolution
  • Work on real-world data problems involving complex ingestion, reliability, and large-scale systems
  • Work closely with experienced engineers and founders in a high-context environment
