About The Position

The Transportation Planning and Management Division (TP&M) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. The division’s responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility and markings, ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists. TP&M is seeking a motivated candidate to assist in data analysis for the Public Engagement Group (PEG), a critical outreach support team for the TP&M Division. This unit supports Vision Zero safety initiatives cited in the Agency's Strategic Plan and NYC Streets Plan and has been critical to the agency's public engagement strategy. PEG provides capacity for public input in the development of Street Improvement Projects (SIPs) and supports the explicit goals of Project-Based Outreach and Public Awareness. This is an opportunity to work with a team dedicated to improving safety, accessibility, and mobility throughout New York City.

Requirements

  • Must be serving permanently in the title of Transportation Specialist, or be reachable on the open competitive civil service list for Exam No. 3027.
  • A master's degree in transportation engineering, mathematics, urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, urban studies, or related physical and social science fields; or
  • A baccalaureate degree in engineering from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience performing technical work on roadway transportation and traffic studies and area-wide traffic programs; or
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in '2' above; or
  • An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in '2' above; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in '2' above.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis on the group’s public engagement analytics and strategy.
  • Provide detailed data analysis.
  • Deploy to the field as needed to help implement engagement strategies.
  • Work with the Public Engagement Coordinator (PEC) to setup deployment logistics.
  • Liaise with internal planning units.
  • Perform analyses to assist in programmatic planning.
  • Develop best practices in database management.
  • Identify and track key performance metrics to optimize outreach efforts.
  • Assess loading and delivery needs along commercial corridors.
  • Conduct intercept surveys to capture data at static positions within project areas.
