Data Architect

TMRW Sports Inc•Orlando, FL

About The Position

Reporting to the Chief Architect, Technology, the Data Architect will design, build, and govern the TMRW Lakehouse, a shared data foundation and central data library supporting competition, broadcast, fan engagement, ticketing, match-night reporting, sponsorship analytics, and league operations across TMRW Sports properties. The role will consolidate fragmented vendor and league data into a unified, governed platform, establish repeatable integration patterns for new vendors and properties, and lay the groundwork for AI/ML, AI data analyst agents, self-service analytics, and a unified fan view. This is a hands-on builder-architect position. The Data Architect will set technical standards for data modeling, governance, security, and privacy; work with vendors on APIs, schema versioning, and service-level agreements; and contribute directly to the modern data stack alongside a lean in-house data engineering team and consulting partners. The position includes occasional travel to venues during build phases and live competition windows.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of data engineering or data architecture experience, including 3+ years in a lead or architect role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical field.
  • Hands-on production experience building on consumption-based platforms, including medallion-style data organization and modern transformation and orchestration tooling.
  • Strong foundation in dimensional modeling; data vault familiarity is a plus.
  • Cloud fluency in AWS, including streaming and event-driven patterns.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating fragmented data across multiple SaaS and vendor platforms and establishing repeatable onboarding patterns.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing data governance with business data owners and stewards, including shared definitions, metric catalogs, lineage, and PII/privacy controls.
  • Experience leading delivery through a lean in-house team and consulting partners, setting technical direction, reviewing partner work, and managing scope and cost.
  • Experience designing semantic models and self-service BI adopted by non-technical users.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in sports, sports media, sports betting/integrity, or live-event environments where reliability on a fixed schedule is critical.
  • Hands-on experience enabling ML/AI workloads, including feature stores, vector databases, RAG, agentic AI/LLM analytics agents, MCP-style tool integration, AI-assisted data engineering, and modern MLOps tooling.
  • Experience with master data management, composable warehouse-native CDPs, reverse ETL, and third-party data enrichment.
  • Experience in a startup or zero-to-one environment where the data platform is being built rather than maintained.
  • Ability to explain complex data concepts in plain language and adapt communication to different audiences.
  • Ability to balance hands-on work with empowering others, build plans amid uncertainty, adapt to new information, collaborate across stakeholders, and maintain team morale.
  • A product-oriented approach to data, prioritizing by business value, measuring adoption, and retiring unused reports.

Responsibilities

  • Own the architecture and day-to-day delivery of the TMRW Lakehouse, organized as a governed medallion architecture for analytics, ML, and operational use cases.
  • Manage the data-source onboarding roadmap with domain data owners, prioritizing sources, definitions, and reports by business value and delivering against gated milestones.
  • Define standardized batch, streaming, and change data capture integration patterns for vendor systems, third-party feeds, and TMRW Sports properties.
  • Design and maintain the canonical data model, semantic layer, and metric catalog for consistent views of fans, athletes, partners, and competition across leagues.
  • Modernize legacy point-to-point integrations and spreadsheet-driven reporting through automated ELT pipelines and event-driven streaming where real-time data is needed.
  • Manage data-stack economics, including consumption-based spend, platform licenses, and consulting-partner capacity, and identify opportunities to reduce external agency and software costs.
  • Consolidate fragmented data from competition systems, ticketing, customer data, point-of-sale, sponsorship measurement, broadcast/OTT, and digital products into a single source of truth.
  • Build identity resolution and fan intelligence capabilities for marketing, ticketing, partnership activation, and league operations.
  • Incorporate third-party data augmentation and establish rules for validating, governing, and reconciling external attributes with first-party data.
  • Evaluate, select, and onboard third-party data providers and feeds; work with vendors on APIs, schema versioning, data quality, SLAs, and delivery against agreed data dictionaries.
  • Govern data contracts, data-quality checks, and pipeline monitoring between producer systems and downstream consumers.
  • Establish and enforce governance covering cataloging, lineage, role-based access, PII handling, consent and preferences, and GDPR/CCPA compliance in a multi-league, multi-tenant environment.
  • Operationalize the hub-and-spoke data operating model, supporting shared business definitions, KPI and metric calculations, and a searchable data catalog.
  • Enable AI/ML and agentic AI use cases by designing semantic and agent-connectivity layers, feature stores, vector/embedding infrastructure, and RAG/LLM patterns.
  • Partner with security, legal, and privacy teams on data classification, masking, and access policies across leagues, partners, and rights holders.
  • Partner with enterprise Analytics & Insights and embedded league analysts to deliver BI platforms, semantic models, and governed datasets for trusted self-service analytics, and drive adoption of dashboards over manual reporting.
  • Improve organizational data literacy through enablement, documentation, and common tooling.
  • Translate business problems from ticketing, marketing, partnerships, competition, and broadcast teams into well-owned data products.
  • Align with cross-TMRW Sports architectures and leverage common solutions across properties.
  • Communicate status, risks, tradeoffs, decisions, and delivered business value to executive leadership.
  • Occasionally travel to venues during build phases and live competition windows.
