Data Architect

Alto-Shaam•Menomonee Falls, WI

About The Position

The Data Architect reports to the VP of Technology and owns the hands-on design, deployment, and development of Alto-Shaam’s cloud data platform, built around Fivetran, Snowflake, and Claude. This is the first dedicated data role on the platform and includes responsibility for data modeling, security, testing, production releases, and delivery of data to the business, as well as day-to-day pipeline monitoring and data support. The role also helps determine how manufacturing execution systems, connected-equipment data, and future applications fit into the expanding platform. The Data Architect translates business requirements into data models, leads migration of historical data from legacy systems, and works with technical and business stakeholders to document design choices and explain trade-offs. The role partners with the integration team on data movement between systems and coaches colleagues who perform data work part-time, establishing standards, documentation, and onboarding materials for future team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 5–8 years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a similar field; 6+ years preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience owning the design of a production data warehouse model spanning three or more source systems.
  • Expert SQL and strong Python skills.
  • Hands-on experience with dimensional modeling (Kimball or similar) in production.
  • Production experience with a cloud data platform such as Snowflake, Databricks, Fabric, or BigQuery.
  • Experience with ELT and transformation tools such as Fivetran or dbt.
  • Experience with version control, CI/CD, and automated data testing.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical leaders.

Nice To Haves

  • Oracle Fusion Cloud data experience, including BICC and BI Publisher extracts, Fusion data structures, or ideally Fusion Data Intelligence; alternatively, deep experience with another large ERP.
  • ERP finance or supply chain data modeling experience.
  • Manufacturing or MES data familiarity.
  • Experience with semantic-layer tools such as Snowflake semantic views or Cortex.
  • Experience with cloud services such as AWS and integration platforms such as Oracle Integration Cloud.
  • Experience with streaming, IoT, or equipment telemetry data.
  • Cloud data platform certification such as SnowPro Core or similar.
  • Experience building data for AI and LLM consumers.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build the platform’s data model, including dimensional models and conformed dimensions shared across finance, manufacturing, sales, and service.
  • Document architecture decisions as architecture decision records.
  • Own ingestion from Oracle Fusion Cloud, CRM, connected-equipment data, and file-based feeds, including connector setup, monitoring, and pipeline health.
  • Design role-based access and data security, development/test/production environments, CI/CD, orchestration, and warehouse cost management.
  • Establish data quality and governance practices, including data contracts, automated testing, lineage, and master and reference data practices.
  • Build and extend the semantic layer used directly by dashboards and AI tools.
  • Lead migration of historical data from legacy business systems, reconcile it with current ERP data, and document legacy business rules and lineage.
  • Translate business requirements into data models and present design trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Partner with the integration team on data movement between systems and help design data and integration approaches for new manufacturing systems, connected-equipment data, and future applications.
  • Coach colleagues who perform part-time data work and establish standards, documentation, and onboarding materials for future team members.
  • Monitor data pipelines and provide day-to-day data support.
