About The Position

This internship focuses on supporting the improvement of data governance across the analytics platform. Key activities include documenting datasets in BigQuery, enriching metadata, improving business definitions, and maintaining a data dictionary. The role also involves classifying data assets to enhance visibility of data lineage, ownership, and usage. Additionally, the intern will contribute to data quality and observability initiatives by defining checks for data freshness, completeness, schema changes, and transformation failures. This includes assisting in setting up or improving alerting and monitoring for critical data pipelines and analytical datasets. The intern will analyze pipeline and warehouse usage to identify cost management and performance optimization opportunities in BigQuery and dbt. They will also support the team in improving the visibility of operational metadata and help review legacy models and datasets for clean-up or simplification. Collaboration with analytics engineers, business stakeholders, and product teams is expected to translate platform improvements into practical recommendations and documentation.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Management, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of data management concepts, including data warehousing, data modeling, and data governance.
  • Experience or familiarity with SQL and cloud-based data platforms (ideally Google Cloud Platform).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn new technologies in a fast-paced environment.
  • Dealing with English speaking staff and reporting in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support the improvement of data governance across the analytics platform by documenting key datasets in BigQuery, enriching metadata, improving business definitions, and helping maintain a clear and usable data dictionary.
  • Help classify data assets and contribute to better visibility of data lineage, ownership, and usage.
  • Contribute to data quality and observability initiatives by helping define checks for freshness, completeness, schema changes, and failed transformations in dbt and related pipelines.
  • Assist in setting up or improving alerting and monitoring for critical data pipelines and analytical datasets.
  • Analyze pipeline and warehouse usage to identify opportunities for cost management and performance optimization in BigQuery and dbt.
  • Support the team in improving visibility of operational metadata such as run results, failures, and freshness indicators.
  • Help review legacy models and datasets, identify opportunities for clean-up or simplification, and support the migration toward more maintainable and standardized data products.
  • Work together with analytics engineers, business stakeholders, and product teams to translate data platform improvements into practical recommendations and documentation.
