About The Position

The Data Analyst for Optum Perks is an embedded analytical partner who drives end-to-end strategic problem-solving in a high-growth, fast-evolving business unit. The role combines durable reporting, workflow automation, and resilient data modeling with strategic analysis, including decision-engine design, experiment evaluation, customer unit economics, and commercial growth optimization. The analyst works between technical engineering and executive business leadership, instruments tracking upstream, uses AI tooling to accelerate delivery, and turns behavioral data into actionable operational and product strategy. The position is hybrid in the Charlotte Metro Area, based in Fort Mill, South Carolina. The team works in the office Tuesday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. The role is an opportunity to own analytical work autonomously, collaborate with data practitioners and cross-functional leaders, and grow professionally.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field, such as data science, statistics, or computer science, or equivalent experience.
Proven experience in data analysis, modeling, visualization, and reporting.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work with complex datasets.
Effective communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
At least 2 years of advanced proficiency in SQL for data extraction, manipulation, and analysis.
Proficiency in cleaning and shaping data with modeling tools such as SQL, dbt, or LookML.
Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Looker, or Power BI, and database querying.
Hands-on experience with one or more cloud-based data warehousing platforms, such as BigQuery, Snowflake, or Redshift.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Python or R for statistical analysis and automation.
Hands-on experience with data transformation, data modeling, and semantic definitions using tools such as dbt, LookML, or modular SQL.
Strong statistical analysis skills and knowledge of statistical techniques.
Comfort navigating ambiguity, structuring messy data, and formulating sound recommendations under uncertainty.
Familiarity with AI tooling or coding assistants to increase workflow velocity without compromising accuracy or code quality.

Responsibilities

Lead analytical projects end to end, including gathering requirements with cross-functional stakeholders, defining milestones, and turning ambiguous business problems into structured analytical roadmaps.
Design, model, and maintain scalable datasets and semantic layers using tools such as dbt and SQL, establishing trusted single-source-of-truth tables for reporting and agentic workflows.
Navigate incomplete or messy datasets, develop grounded assumptions, and deliver clear, actionable recommendations to business partners.
Use modern analytics tooling and AI coding assistants to accelerate development while rigorously overseeing, validating, and testing outputs.
Communicate tracking and infrastructure requirements to data and software engineers.
Translate analytical findings into executive-level narratives and actionable business steps for business leaders.
Establish and maintain reporting suites, automate routine workflows, and engineer resilient data models.
Design and implement decision engines, evaluate on-site testing and experiments, analyze customer unit economics such as LTV, retention, and churn, and optimize commercial growth strategies.
