About The Position

The Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness (CHECW) is seeking to eliminate health inequities. This role supports the Office of Health Insurance Services and the Office of Health Care Access and Policy within the Bureau of Equitable Health Systems. The Bureau focuses on expanding health insurance coverage and equitable access to affordable, high-quality primary care by integrating data analysis, policy expertise, and programmatic work to address system-level barriers to culturally appropriate care for New Yorkers most at risk for poor health outcomes.

Requirements

  • Strong quantitative research and analytical skills
  • Experience cleaning, managing, and analyzing large datasets
  • Proficiency in at least one statistical programming language (e.g. SAS, R) and writing clear, well-documented analytic code.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to translate findings for non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
  • At least two years of experience in responsible full-time research in an appropriate field of specialization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with complex survey data
  • Experience with tools for data visualization, presentation, and mapping, eg., DataWrapper, Excel, PowerBI, GitHub, GIS/ArcMap, and/or PowerPoint.
  • Experience with health care access topics and related quantitative and qualitative research and analysis.
  • Familiarity with datasets with NYC health metrics (e.g., NYC Community Health Survey, Medicaid claims, SPARCS, American Community Survey Public Use Microdata Sample).
  • Demonstrated interest in or experience applying an equity lens to health data analysis and interpretation.

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, development, and implementation of the Bureau's data analysis, research and surveillance activities.
  • Conduct analyses of existing data to support planning and policy development.
  • Prepare analysis plans and data-driven reports and presentations.
  • Conduct data quality assurance activities including data cleaning and recoding.
  • Support database management and evaluation activities.
  • Coordinate projects and research activities.
  • Assist with preparing scientific manuscripts for publication.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external groups to align data collection and data integration.
  • Prepare reports, briefs, and presentations on research findings and recommendations.
  • Present findings within the bureau and across the agency, as necessary.
  • Assist on special projects as needed.
  • Use exceptional professional judgment and discretion when handling highly sensitive and confidential data (i.e., human subjects data).
  • Additional duties as assigned.
