About The Position

Join us at the First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB), where we support First Nations to strengthen their governance and financial practices. Since our establishment in 2006 under the First Nations Fiscal Management Act, we have been dedicated to providing fully optional tools and services tailored to meet the unique needs of First Nations communities. As an independent organization governed by a Board of Directors, the FMB is committed to fostering self-determination and financial sustainability. Be a part of our mission to support First Nations in achieving their financial goals and enhancing their administrative capabilities. This role is an 8-week term position open to youth between the ages of 15-30 as part of the Canada Summer Jobs program.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or looking to pursue a University Degree in Data Science, Economics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in data analysis, software development, or a similar role.
  • Familiarity with SQL, Python, R, or other languages amendable to data analysis.
  • Familiarity with Power BI and its data visualization capabilities, including DAX coding.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Problem-solving mindset with an emphasis on understanding and interpreting data.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of GenAI and its practical applications in database development and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to coordinate across teams.
  • An understanding, awareness, and appreciation of Indigenous culture and history.
  • Must be fluent in English (spoken and written).

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in French is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, construction, testing, and maintenance of the internal database and data analysis processes.
  • Work collaboratively with the data and analytics team on data initiatives, ensuring consistency and integrity in data management across projects.
  • Support the processes for data modeling, mining, and production.
  • Utilize various analytical tools, languages, and GenAI tools to integrate datasets and advance new insights.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of data standards and common data elements as required.
  • Help maintain the security and privacy of the database.
  • Provide regular updates on the status of data projects.
