Data Analyst

Outset•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Outset is hiring a Data Analyst to turn the company’s data into timely, trustworthy decisions using analysis and automation. The role combines business analysis with building lightweight internal tools, scripts, dashboards, and AI-enabled workflows that reduce recurring manual reporting and help teams across the company work with data. The analyst will answer business questions across go-to-market, People, Product, and Engineering; collaborate with stakeholders to clarify what they need; maintain data pipelines and data quality; and assess which emerging AI tools and workflows are useful for internal adoption. The position calls for someone who can work independently from an ambiguous request to a scoped solution, document work for others, and use AI tools as an integral part of the workflow.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in a data analyst, analytics engineer, or business intelligence role.
  • Fluency in SQL and Python.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or Cursor to build a script, agent, automation, or other practical solution.
  • A tendency to automate recurring manual processes rather than repeatedly perform them by hand.
  • Ability to turn vague stakeholder requests into specific, well-scoped answers without extensive guidance.
  • Clear written communication, including the ability to explain findings or tools to nontechnical audiences concisely.
  • Experience working at a startup where the data stack and tooling were still being built.
  • Exposure to building or prompting AI agents or workflows, beyond using chat interfaces.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with modern BI and data tools such as dbt, Looker, or Hex.

Responsibilities

  • Answer recurring business questions across GTM, People, Product, and Engineering using SQL, Python, and relevant AI tools.
  • Build small internal tools, including applications, Slack bots, scripts, lightweight dashboards, and AI skills, to eliminate manual reports and repeated ad hoc requests.
  • Partner with stakeholders to understand their needs before building solutions.
  • Maintain and improve data pipelines so underlying data and numbers are trustworthy.
  • Evaluate new AI tools and workflows and determine whether they are worth adopting internally.
  • Document tools and workflows so others can use them independently.
  • Identify data-quality issues and inconsistent definitions before they lead to poor decisions.
