About The Position

GAINSCO is seeking a Data Analyst III to lead complex, cross-functional analyses that inform business decisions across Underwriting, Claims, Operations, Finance, and Marketing. As a senior member of the Data and Analytics team, you will turn complex data and ambiguous business questions into clear insights, recommendations, and trusted reporting solutions. This role combines advanced analytics, data product development, business partnership, and mentorship. You will lead analytical projects from discovery through delivery, develop reusable datasets and certified reporting assets, and help establish high standards for analytical quality across the team.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree required with focus in a quantitative or analytical field such as accounting/finance, mathematics, statistics, or data science.
5+ years of experience as a Data Analyst, Business Analyst, or in a similar analytical role.
Insurance industry experience is required. Property and Casualty insurance experience is preferred.
Expert-level SQL skills, including experience extracting, transforming, validating, and analyzing data from multiple complex sources.
Advanced experience with Power BI, including data modeling, semantic models, dashboards, reporting solutions, and DAX.
Working proficiency with Python for data analysis, process automation, and reporting.
Experience working with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake or Microsoft Azure.
Demonstrated experience leading analytical projects from initial scoping through delivery, including selecting an analytical approach, managing deliverables, and presenting recommendations.
Experience translating complex or incomplete business needs into structured analyses, clear insights, and actionable recommendations.
Experience communicating analytical findings and business recommendations to senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to identify patterns, evaluate trade-offs, and develop practical recommendations.
Ability to frame complex or ambiguous business questions by defining metrics, hypotheses, and success criteria.
Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work with minimal direction.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy, documentation, and reporting consistency.
Ability to challenge assumptions constructively and influence decisions through evidence-based recommendations.
Strong mentoring skills with an interest in helping other analysts strengthen their technical and analytical capabilities.
Ability to collaborate with business leaders, data engineering teams, governance partners, and analysts across the organization.

Responsibilities

Lead complex analytical projects from initial scoping through delivery, producing executive-ready insights and recommendations.
Apply statistical and diagnostic analysis to identify performance drivers, business risks, trends, and opportunities.
Build reusable datasets, semantic models, and certified Power BI reporting assets that support trusted, self-service analytics.
Automate manual data preparation and reporting processes to improve accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness.
Partner with business leaders, data engineering, and governance teams to define requirements, prioritize analytics needs, and strengthen data quality.
Mentor junior analysts, review analytical work for accuracy and quality, and help maintain standards for SQL, documentation, and reporting.
