About The Position

As a Dance Coach, you'll have the opportunity to share your passion for dance while creating meaningful experiences for participants of all ages and abilities. You'll lead engaging classes, teach and choreograph routines, build relationships, and help participants feel confident and connected. This position offers the opportunity to share your passion for dance with others, help youth develop confidence and new skills, create a fun and encouraging environment where participants feel supported, build meaningful relationships with participants and their families, develop your leadership, communication, teaching, and choreography skills, celebrate participants' accomplishments and be part of their growth, help build a strong sense of community within your classes, and make a positive impact through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Requirements

  • Minimum age 15 required.
  • Must have 12 months’ experience in participating in dance training.
  • CPR/AED & First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire.
  • New Leader Orientation required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to relate and communicate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
  • Must have a passion for learning, working with youth/families, and the sport in general.
  • Accepts and demonstrates the Y’s values.
  • Demonstrates a desire to serve others and fulfill community needs.
  • Recruits volunteers and builds effective, supportive working relationships with them.
  • Supports fund-raising.
  • Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions.

  • Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties.
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to game situations and the physical ability to act swiftly in the event of an emergency.
  • Must demonstrate initiative and sound judgment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience teaching dance lessons preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead fun, energetic, safe, and educational dance classes.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Develop lesson plans that help participants progress according to their age and ability.
  • Modify activities and instruction to meet the needs of individual participants.
  • Help plan and develop choreography for recitals.
  • Build positive relationships with participants, parents, and families.
  • Encourage participants and celebrate their accomplishments and progress.
  • Bring energy and enthusiasm to every class.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians about participant progress when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and help support class retention and growth.
  • Complete daily equipment checks and cleaning tasks.
  • Participate in staff meetings, required training, special events, and YMCA activities.
  • Promote other YMCA programs and help support the YMCA's mission and community initiatives.
