About The Position

As a Dance Coach, you'll have the opportunity to share your passion for dance while creating meaningful experiences for participants of all ages and abilities. You'll lead engaging classes, teach and choreograph routines, build relationships, and help participants feel confident and connected. This position offers the opportunity to share your passion for dance with others, help youth develop confidence and new skills, create a fun and encouraging environment where participants feel supported, build meaningful relationships with participants and their families, develop your leadership, communication, teaching, and choreography skills, celebrate participants' accomplishments and be part of their growth, help build a strong sense of community within your classes, and make a positive impact through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Requirements

  • Minimum age 15 required.
  • Must have 12 months’ experience in participating in dance training.
  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED & First Aid and New Leader Orientation.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to relate and communicate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
  • Must have a passion for learning, working with youth/families, and the sport in general.
  • Passion for dance and working with others.
  • Ability to lead engaging and age-appropriate dance instruction.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with participants and families.
  • Ability to create an inclusive environment for individuals of different ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
  • Willingness to complete required YMCA training, certifications, and staff meetings.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience teaching dance lessons preferred.
  • Previous dance instruction, coaching, performance, or related experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead fun, energetic, safe, and educational dance classes.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Develop lesson plans that help participants progress according to their age and ability.
  • Modify activities and instruction to meet the needs of individual participants.
  • Help plan and develop choreography for recitals.
  • Build positive relationships with participants, parents, and families.
  • Encourage participants and celebrate their accomplishments and progress.
  • Bring energy and enthusiasm to every class.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians about participant progress when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and help support class retention and growth.
  • Complete daily equipment checks and cleaning tasks.
  • Participate in staff meetings, required training, special events, and YMCA activities.
  • Promote other YMCA programs and help support the YMCA's mission and community initiatives.
  • Keep participants engaged and actively involved throughout class.
  • Adapt lessons and activities to different ages, abilities, and experience levels.
  • Balance fun and creativity with safety and appropriate supervision.
  • Manage a group while maintaining a positive and welcoming environment.
  • Adjust choreography or activities when participants need additional support or modifications.
  • Communicate effectively with both participants and parents.
  • Maintain consistent energy and enthusiasm throughout your classes.
