About The Position

The Dairy Manager oversees the activities and functions of the Dairy Department to maximize sales and profits. The role directs department clerks and is responsible for product presentation, sanitation, stocking, customer service, inventory, product rotation, freshness, and pricing. The manager provides overall direction and evaluation of the department while leading a team to deliver high-quality products and a strong customer experience. The position includes recruiting and hiring in collaboration with the Store Manager, making promotion and transfer recommendations, coaching and evaluating team members, addressing employee concerns, and taking corrective action when needed. The manager also plans and adjusts schedules and staffing levels, communicates department standards and policy changes, and participates in in-store meetings. Work includes maintaining the sales floor and backroom cooler and may require using department equipment and handling products.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age.
Have a minimum of 2 years of retail grocery experience.
Have good communication skills and the ability to give and take direction in a team environment.
Be able to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Have working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers, and financial goals.
Demonstrate outgoing, friendly behavior and a positive attitude toward Team Members and customers.
Be able to operate knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks as needed.
Use knowledge of scales and weight measures to accurately weigh and label products.
Be able to stand for up to 3 hours continuously, for a total of 8 hours per shift.
Be able to vertically transfer trays up to 5 lbs. from 7 inches to 64 inches for up to 10 hours.
Be able to vertically and horizontally transfer items up to 40 lbs. from 5 inches to 36 inches, up to 36 feet, for up to 10 hours without mechanical assistance.
Adhere to safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations and obtain and maintain a Food Handlers permit.

Responsibilities

Manage Dairy Department activities and functions to maximize sales and profits.
Direct department clerks and oversee product presentation and sanitation in the sales floor and backroom cooler.
Process and stock products according to Sprouts dairy standards.
Deliver outstanding customer service and lead the team in providing quality products and a positive customer experience.
Provide overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department.
Control inventory using proper ordering techniques to maximize sales and minimize stock loss.
Rotate products, maintain freshness, and remove out-of-code items.
Manage price changes within the department.
Coach, provide feedback to, and develop team members; complete bi-annual performance reviews and recommend merit increases.
Attend and participate in in-store meetings.
Recruit and hire team members and make promotion or transfer decisions in collaboration with the Store Manager.
Exercise independent judgment in addressing Team Member concerns.
Document and take corrective actions, working with business and HR partners as needed, including coaching, counseling, progressive discipline, suspension, or termination.
Create and adjust schedules and staffing levels to maximize productivity and efficiency.
Communicate standards, expectations, policy changes, and product knowledge to team members.
Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize department work areas and equipment.
Answer phones and take special orders.
Follow safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations and maintain a Food Handlers permit.
