About The Position

St. John Vianney Regional School in Allentown is seeking multiple Daily Substitute Teachers for kindergarten through 8th grade. The role involves filling in for absent classroom teachers, following constructed lesson plans and daily activities, and guiding students. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or Education related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and supervise an educational program set by the classroom teacher.
  • Must communicate effectively with parents, students, and co-workers in a positive and enthusiastic manner.
  • Possess an understanding of child development and the skills necessary to relate to the students being taught.
  • Possess an understanding of the supervision of employees and the communication skills necessary to relate to adult employees and volunteers in a collegial, as well as effective, and efficient manner.
  • Able to maintain a high level of energy.
  • Ability to respond calmly to overwhelming and difficult situations.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, a high degree of credibility, integrity, and self-confidence is essential.
  • Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, NSOR, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Act 153 of 2014 (at least 1 year old).
  • Attendance at a Protecting God's Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.

  • Teaching certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a well-managed classroom and a safe, positive learning environment.
  • Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground, and in the cafeteria.
  • Follow and implement lesson plans, classwork, homework, and tests.
  • Provide appropriate material and resources for students to engage in learning.
  • Compile a report for the teacher that includes student attendance, lesson-plan progress, disciplinary actions, and positive developments.
  • Ensure knowledge of emergency evacuation routes, school procedures, and regulations for the classrooms assigned.
  • Support the school in stimulating and advancing the ongoing development of an organizational culture characterized by a commitment to faith, continuous learning, quality, integrity, mutual respect, and Catholic values.
  • Model the expectations of the school and diocese according to the mission and vision espoused, as well as those expectations set forth in the school and diocesan handbooks.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal or his/her designee.
