About The Position

Cytogenetic Tech Trainee - Lewisville, TX, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. This role involves performing clinical lab testing and/or other scientific examinations under supervision, with the goal of preparing the incumbent for employment as a Cytogenetic Technologist. The training program includes lectures, practical laboratory training, and instructional objectives. Trainee competency is assessed through direct observation and satisfactory performance in training modules, with sign-off from the Trainer and Program Manager.

Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Demonstrated knowledge or proficiency in computer skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree: Bachelors of Arts or Sciences degree in a physical, chemical or biological science from an accredited college or university as required by the clinical laboratory specialty (Required)
  • Current state licensure, if applicable (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the ability to acquire knowledge and technical skills.
  • Completes instructional or learning objectives as provided by the Program Manager or Trainer.
  • Understands analytical processes, interprets analytical results and appreciates the clinical significance of analyses performed in a Cytogenetics laboratory.
  • Maintains professional, interpersonal relations and interacts effectively with others.
  • Maintains a cooperative working relationship with co-workers.
  • Communicates clearly, politely, and respectfully to peers, technicians, technologists, supervisors, and managers.
  • Demonstrates a learning orientation and achieves passing scores on National Examination upon completion of the Training Program.
  • Takes the initiative to complete assigned tasks and demonstrates commitment, reliability, trustworthiness, and accountability.
  • Under supervision, performs clinical tests following Six Sigma quality standards.
  • Exhibits skills and proficiency in applying technical principles and techniques of cytogenetics technology.
  • Works with laboratory instrumentation, quality control and quality assurance.
  • Identifies problems related to learning activities, attempts to resolve them, and refers issues to the proper individual(s) when appropriate.
  • Uses solutions, reagents, filtration, centrifugation, slides preparation and/or staining techniques to prepare specimens/samples for laboratory delivery, examination, screens, and/or testing.
  • Under supervision, interprets test results, and assures test results are accurate and/or acceptable.
  • Achieves a passing score of 70% or better on the written examination at the end of each laboratory rotation.
  • Follows established company and department policies and procedures, including guidelines for safety, environmental, and infection control.
  • Demonstrates a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.
