Cybersecurity Intern
About The Position
JHNA is seeking a motivated Cybersecurity Intern currently pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity or a related field. This role is designed for a junior-level student with an active Secret clearance who is interested in hands-on experience with modern security tools and operations. The intern will support security operations by working with Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Sentinel, assisting in vulnerability management, and helping analyze and respond to security alerts. The intern will gain hands-on experience with enterprise security tools, exposure to real-world threat detection and response, an understanding of the vulnerability management lifecycle, and experience working in a compliance-driven environment.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled as a Junior in a Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or related degree program
- Active Secret Clearance (required)
- Basic understanding of: Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, etc.)
- Basic understanding of: Operating systems (Windows preferred)
- Basic understanding of: Cybersecurity principles (threats, vulnerabilities, risk)
Nice To Haves
- Basic scripting knowledge (PowerShell or Python)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Responsibilities
- Monitor security alerts and incidents using Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Sentinel
- Review and triage alerts to identify potential threats or false positives
- Support investigation of suspicious activity and document findings
- Help identify, track, and prioritize system vulnerabilities
- Assist with remediation efforts and validation of fixes
- Maintain vulnerability tracking documentation and reporting
- Assist in developing and improving detection rules and alerts
- Support log analysis and correlation across multiple data sources
- Document procedures, findings, and incident response actions
- Assist in creating reports for internal stakeholders
- Maintain clear and accurate records of security activities
- Participate in training and mentorship opportunities
