About The Position

Mfinite Consulting is building a pool of cybersecurity professionals for contract assignments with North Carolina state and public-sector agencies in the Raleigh area. Assignments typically run 6–12 months or longer. Agencies determine whether the schedule is onsite, hybrid, or remote. The role is a full-time contract assignment, approximately 40 hours per week, with W-2 hourly employment through Mfinite Consulting LLC. Compensation is $51–$71 per hour based on experience and skill level, with direct deposit.

The position defends systems and data entrusted to North Carolina state and public-sector agencies. Work includes monitoring and investigating security events, supporting vulnerability management and compliance activities, maintaining security documentation, and advising project teams on secure design and configuration.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience in an information security role; experience bands listed are Mid-Level 3–5 years, Senior 5–7 years, and Expert 7+ years.
• Hands-on experience with tools such as Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, CrowdStrike, Defender, Tenable/Nessus, or Qualys.
• Working knowledge of NIST frameworks and incident response.
• Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Able to pass a fingerprint-based background check.

Nice To Haves

• CompTIA Security+, CySA+, CISSP, CISM, CEH, GIAC, or cloud security certifications.
• State, federal, or law-enforcement (CJIS) security experience.
• Military or veteran cyber background; military spouses are welcomed.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, triage, and investigate security alerts and incidents using SIEM and EDR tools.
• Run vulnerability scans, track remediation, and report risk to system owners.
• Review access controls, configurations, and firewall rules against State security standards.
• Support risk assessments, audits, and compliance work, including NIST 800-53, CJIS, HIPAA, and IRS 1075 as applicable.
• Write and maintain security policies, procedures, and incident reports.
• Advise project teams on secure design and configuration.
