About The Position

During completion of training, the CV Invasive Specialist performs duties necessary for cardiac catheterization procedures at a technical and professional level requiring proctoring and supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that require supervised judgment. Assumes responsibility and initiative for designated areas and procedures as required under the direction of assigned mentor. Follows Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals Scope of Practice. An RN will be present to supervise the care of patients during moderate sedation. This role is PRN (As Needed) and located at St. Vincent's Regional Hospital. The CV Invasive Specialist in Training will play a vital role in supporting the clinical team, ensuring patients receive the best care. The facility is equipped with 2 Cath Labs, 1 Electrophysiology (EP) Lab, 1 Vascular Suite, and a Hybrid Operating Room, providing a comprehensive environment for advanced cardiovascular interventions. Approximately 350 procedures are performed per month, spanning a diverse range of specialties including Cardiac Procedures, Electrophysiology, Structural Heart Interventions, and Vascular Procedures. Laboratories are outfitted with Philips imaging systems and GE Mac-Lab hemodynamic monitoring systems, complemented by Acist contrast injection devices. The team is proficient in using cutting-edge technology. A collaborative and respectful environment brings together Cardiologists, Electrophysiologists, Vascular Surgeons, and Cardiac Surgeons, ensuring interdisciplinary excellence. Procedures are carried out by highly skilled three-person teams, composed of registered nurses and invasive technologists, with documentation managed via Epic and Mac-Lab systems. A balanced approach to sedation is employed, combining RN-led conscious sedation and anesthesia when appropriate.

Requirements

  • Current applicable license or certification in state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
  • ACLS required prior to working on-call.
  • Demonstrated relevant clinical experience, which may include work as an LPN, Respiratory Therapist, EKG, tech, or Radiology Tech.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in procedure room preparation and post procedure turn around, and inventory control.
  • Develop patient assessment and monitoring skills to inform the physician of deviations from normal criteria throughout the procedure.
  • Develop a knowledge base of cardiopulmonary pathophysiology, pharmacology, anatomic anomalies, and specific treatment options.
  • Develop specific knowledge of invasive, diagnostic and interventional supplies, appropriate indications and applications, and proper use and deployment techniques.
  • Develop an understanding of and begin to provide procedural assistance as a circulating tech, scrub tech, or monitoring tech, according to cath lab policies and procedures and Scope of Practice documents.
  • Develop an understanding of the principles of x-ray generation, safety, and the operation of imaging equipment.
  • Make hemodynamic recordings, calculations, and interpretations.
  • Provide patient education and emotional support for both patient and family members as needed.
  • Provide thorough and accurate documentation of each procedure and associated events.
  • Develop skills in operating, calibrating and troubleshooting all equipment in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.
