About The Position

The Customs Broker ensures optimal, smooth, and timely customs clearance processes, maintains communication with customs authorities, and contributes to AIT’s annual goals and targets while following quality management system guidelines. The role supports customers with customs-related services, documentation, deadlines, statistics, and administrative tasks, while complying with applicable customs and dangerous-goods requirements.

The position also supports customer-specific standard operating procedures, resolution of local nonconformance reports, complaints, and claims, and implementation and continuous improvement for customers. The Customs Broker is expected to contribute to a healthy and secure work environment by reporting unsafe, insecure, or unhealthy conditions and suggesting improvements.

Requirements

• Several years of professional experience as a forwarding agent, customs agent, or broker.
• Good knowledge of customs clearance.
• Ability to work independently and in a group environment.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
• Strong cultural sensitivity and ability to build relationships.
• Proactive, target-driven, solutions-oriented approach and good attention to detail.
• Flexible and positive attitude in a client-driven environment, with commercial awareness.
• Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
• Strong PC skills, including Windows and Microsoft Office applications, preferred.
• Strong work ethic and appreciation for ownership, independence, accountability, and autonomy.
• Customer-service focus and ability to build relationships with internal and external customers.
• Growth mindset, openness to change, and interest in continuous improvement and new ways of working.
• Respectful and collaborative approach as a team player.

Responsibilities

• Check the plausibility of customs-relevant customer data and commissioning.
• Declare import customs clearances and export clearances.
• Communicate with customs authorities.
• Prepare transit documents and monitor their closure.
• Calculate duties.
• Prepare and provide consulting to customers.
• Prepare key figures and statistics.
• Carry out general administrative tasks.
• Retain customs documents in accordance with document-retention obligations.
• Control deadlines and comply with completion and submission deadlines.
• Handle additional tasks according to specific customer SOP requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
• Support resolution of local nonconformance reports (NCRs), complaints, and claims.
• Support implementation and continuous improvement for customers.
• Execute dangerous-goods shipments in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, as applicable.
• Report unsafe, insecure, or unhealthy conditions and suggest possible improvements to support a healthy and secure work environment.
• Contribute to AIT’s annual goals and targets and follow quality management system guidelines.
