About The Position

This position exists to research, develop and deliver quality customized training/continuing education programs to fire and emergency service agencies, individuals, service providers and other organizations. Incumbents in this position provide consulting, program development and coordination, assessment, and evaluation services. This position will focus on training, selling, and marketing within Riverland Community College’s service area as well as developing effective collaboration with other colleges in our region to provide this range of services.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of relevant work experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • An associate’s degree could substitute for 6 months of experience, a bachelor’s degree is 12 months, and a master’s degree is 18 months in Fire Science and/or a Business-related field.
  • Certified Firefighter 2 and Certified Emergency Medical Responder
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Demonstrated budgeting experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to create training or teaching materials in a corporate setting.
  • Knowledge of instructional methods and training techniques.
  • Ability to work with little direct supervision, within general guidelines and state policies, in a flexible and adaptable manner, handling multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to communicate orally in one-to-one, small group, large group, and instructional settings at all organization levels.
  • Completing employment references and a driver’s license background check.
  • Employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State’s Vehicle use criteria and consent to Motor Vehicle Records check.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Fire Science and/or Business-related field.
  • Sales or Client Management experience.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in a higher education setting.
  • Instructor Certification in Minnesota Board of Fire Training & Education and/or Basic Life Support.
  • Knowledge of State and Minnesota State system rules and regulations regarding providing services to business and industry, contracting with vendors/consultants, purchasing materials and supplies, documenting and reimbursing expenses.
  • Knowledge of curriculum design principles, learning theory, group and individual teaching techniques, design of individual development plans, and test design principles.
  • Bilingual/multilingual fluent in Spanish, Karen, Karenni, Somali, Pohnpeian, French, Nuer, Anuak, or other languages that reflect our student body, workforce, and communities.
  • Demonstrated experience working with multicultural and underserved populations.

Responsibilities

  • Markets and sells training and educational services based on customer requirements. Under general supervision, provides consulting, program development coordination and management, and assessment and evaluation services. Secures and administers multiple contracts and projects to deliver training, development, consulting, conferences, and other events and services. Successful performance in this area is measured by client satisfaction, number of contracts awarded, revenues and profits generated.
  • Develops programs and services to provide training and consulting to area businesses. Directs the development of training and consulting to assure that they meet the identified need described by the client. Successful performance in this major responsibility area is measured through client satisfaction with the service delivered within policies, guidelines, and accepted practices.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with fire/public safety agencies to influence workforce development in the Riverland service region. Develop and maintain partnerships with fire/public safety agencies, State/Federal/local government agencies. Promote new program development and initiatives based on partner responses. Participate in the regional fire advisory committees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.
